Job Vacancy For Associate Attorney



The Need

International Justice Mission (IJM) Ghana is working to eliminate trafficking on the Volta Lake by bringing rescue and restoration to individual victims, accountability to their perpetrators, and transformation to the public justice system as a whole. As an Associate Attorney, you will have the opportunity to bring relief to vulnerable children by providing support to government partners in their investigation and prosecution of trafficking offences, developing and participating in trainings for public justice system leaders and community members, and implementing efforts to reform the public justice system.

Reports to: Head of Legal

Responsibilities

Legal Intervention

• Assist in evaluating, developing, and implementing intervention strategies for IJM cases.
• Support the Ghana Police Service and Attorney Generals’ Department in the prosecution of trafficking cases.
• Coordinate with IJM Investigators to investigate allegations trafficking and ensure all evidence is collected in an admissible form.
• Conduct case intake and client screening based on established criteria.
• Ensure that the Field Office is compliant with the relevant legal regime.
• Conduct legal research and writing.
• Watching brief on behalf of IJM clients or as directed.
• Track case related data in paper and electronic case tracking management systems.

Qualification Required & Experience

• A Bachelors’ degree in Law and any other related disciplines.
• Professional Certificate in Law and should be a member of the Ghana Bar Association in good standing.
• Current Practicing Certificate.
• At least one year of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Excellent critical thinking, legal analysis and oral and written communication skills.
• Fluency in English. Fluency in any of the local languages on the area of operation would be an added advantage.
• Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
• Driver’s License preferred.

Travel Requirements

• This position requires travel to and from Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern and Northern Region.
