Job Vacancy For Communications Specialist



We are currently seeking a Communications Specialist to be based in the Tamale Office for USAID Agriculture Development and value chain enhancement (USAID ADVANCE) project. This position will be through April 2019, possibly renewable.

Job Summary

Successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Assist with development and implementation of the ADVANCE communications strategy
• Develop Internal and external ADVANCE communications materials and publications, in consultation with other staff
• Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and represent ACDI/VOCA and the project to the public and donor community in the 3 northern regions of Ghana
• Draft press releases and liaise with press and public relations firms for ADVANCE events. Provide information and written responses to press inquiries, as required
• Ensure accurate and timely submission of all ACDI/VOCA weekly reports, success stories and media materials to ACDI/VOCA Accra
• Liaise with technical leads and program specialists to develop technical briefs
• Incorporate and maintain ACDI/VOCA and USAID marking and branding requirement in all ACDI/VOCA written communications and materials
• Develop and maintain an ACDI/VOCA photo library for use across a range of communications forms
• Contribute to planning of and arrangements for ADVANCE events in the 3 northern regions of Ghana
• Organise press conference and media events
• Prepare scene setters for visiting delegations related to ADVANCE activities

Qualification Required & Experience

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Development communication, Public Relations or any related field
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in developing strategic communication strategies and working with domestic and international media. Photography, graphic or web design experience preferred
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organised manner
• Can show his/her own written newspaper articles or communications publications
• Proven ability to manage publications from conceptualization to completion
• Knowledge of international development theory, practices and issues
• Advanced knowledge of communications and media for international development programs
• Experience with international donor's branding requirements
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to complete projects and meet deadlines
• Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment including Word, publisher, outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
