Project Description: The Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project is a 5-year integrated project funded by the USAID Feed the Future (FtF) Initiative and is designed to contribute to Government of Ghana (GoG) efforts to sustainably reduce poverty and improve the nutritional status of vulnerable populations. The goal of RING is improved livelihoods and nutritional status of households in Ghana.

Background

The Resiliency in Northern Ghana Project (RING) Project is a USAID-funded nutrition and poverty reduction program currently implemented in 17 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies of Northern Region. The project is implemented through the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) and District Assemblies (DAs) and their substructures to deliver livelihoods, agriculture, nutrition, WASH and good governance services to vulnerable families, but with technical support and guidance from Global Communities.

As part of its technical support to MMDAs, Global Communities’ intends to apply part of its contract sum to procure the services of 6 temporal staff (short term consultants) to be placed in 6 GC RING supported districts for 6 months to support the implementation of CLTS. The contract is subject to renewal based on good performance (converting communities into ODFs) and the availability of funds.

The assignment

The assignment involves pre-triggering and baseline data collection, triggering and implementation of post triggering activities in assigned CLTS communities in specific districts. Under this assignment, each successful candidate will be required to trigger 10 communities and provide technical support and guidance for them to become ODF within 6 months.

Objective of the assignment

The objective of the assignment is to provide the districts with additional independent human resources to accelerate CLTS implementation in the beneficiary districts and shorten the duration from triggering to ODF.

Scope of work for CLTS Monitors

The assignment will be carried out in the following districts: East mamprusi, Saboba, Gushegu, Karaga, North Gonja, and Nanumba North districts.

Successful candidates will be required to perform these specific tasks as part of the assignment:

• Work with District Environmental health staff and conduct pre-triggering to collect baseline data in assigned communities
• In collaboration with District Environmental health staff, lead the triggering of assigned CLTS communities
• In collaboration with the District Environmental health staff, lead the monitoring of assigned CLTS communities (2 communities per day)
• Support Natural leaders to update community action plans and defecation maps in assigned communities
• In consultation with the District Environmental health staff, identify emerged natural leaders and lead their training in CLTS concept and methodologies
• Work in collaboration with the District environmental health staff and convert assigned CLTS communities into ODF
• Support Natural Leaders and households to construct latrines, tippy taps and functional soakaways in CLTS communities
• Conduct house-to-house latrine use monitoring and hygiene and sanitation sensitization in assigned CLTS communities
• Collect and transmit CLTS data for assigned CLTS communities to RING and the EHSD
• Provide weekly updates and monthly narrative report on CLTS activities in CLTS communities to RING
• Facilitate community self-assessment and DICCS/RICCs verification in assigned CLTS communities
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by RING

Outputs & Deliverables

As evidence of performance of duties, and for which payment of salaries or remuneration will be based, the CLTS monitor will be required deliver the following outputs:

• Monthly work plan, which will be reviewed and approved by RING WASH team
• Triggered communities in operational areas or districts
• Weekly updates on the nature of technical support provided to the communities
• CLTS data (number of latrines constructed, number in use, number of tippy tabs constructed, number soakaways constructed etc) every week
• Monthly narrative reports, indicating communities visited, number of visits and the activities undertaken
• Community self-assessment reports and district ODF verification reports
• Triggered all assigned CLTS communities
• At least 8 ODF communities
• Household latrines and hand washing stations equivalent to the total number of households in assigned communities

Qualification Required & Experience

Eligible candidates must have the following:

• Minimum of certificate or Diploma a in relevant discipline (environmental studies, public health, development studies)
• One year post national service relevant working experience
• Be able to communicate effectively in one of the following languages; Mampruli, Dagbani/Namumba, Likpakpa ( kokomba), and Chokosi-Anufo)
• Be able to ride a motorbike and have rider’s license
• A motorbike
• Basic knowledge in MS office applications
• Be willing to stay and work in one of the above-mentioned districts.
• Be willing to work 90% in field

Duration of assignment

The assignment is a short term contract for a fix term of 6 months. The contract will start in November 2017 and end in April 2018. The contract is however renewable based on good performance and availability of funds.
