Chirano Gold Mines Limited (A Kinross Mine)

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control CGML process plant engineering systems, machinery and processes

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

•   Actively promote safety culture and hazard awareness
•   Maintain production goals and objectives as a team
•   Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other Statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance, ensures safety at each work place
•   Practice and promote company environmental, health, safety and operational policies and procedures
•   Actively participate in CGML continuous Improvement Program
•   Report all accident, unsafe positions, defected equipment, and safety complains from his department HSE representative
•   Design and develop new control systems
•   Perform testing, maintaining and modifying existing process plant control systems
•   Analyze data and present findings in written reports
•   Manage electrical and instrumentation technician crews
•   Work collaboratively with OEM design engineering , CGML operations and maintenance teams purchasers and other internal staff and external consultants
•   Liaise with suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities whenever required
•   Ensure proper project management within cost and time constrained environments
•   Perform troubleshooting and problem- solving on failed equipment
•   Provide advice and consultancy support
•   Provide recommendations on purchasing new equipment
•   Write PLC, computer software and test procedures
•   Program automation and controls systems involving  PLCs
•   Maintain an official log of all PLC bypasses and forces installed
•   Make sure bypasses and forces are regularly reviewed and repaired /removed
•   Design of control panel and field termination panels to house PLC and field device wiring termination and device powering
•   Selection and installation of instrument field device including I/o skills
•   Validation of process sensors to ensure suitability – to-task
•   Bench calibration and verification of sensors and actuators
•   Lead and/or collaborate on project tasks of various complexity
•   Build components of the solution, including wiring and environment controls, and ensuring safe electro-mechanical operation
•   Train CGML staff on PLC , electronics, software, controls and instrumentation
•   Commitment to investigate, represent , and provide technical report for any incident  Participate in Root Cause Analysis of failures when required
•   Other duties as reasonably assigned

REPORTING STUCTURE

•   Direct reports : Electricians, Instrumentation Technicians , Lead Hand Electricians and supervisors
•   The position reports to the Electrical Superintendent -Process Plant Maintenance

Qualification Required & Experience

•   BSc. Degree in Controls, Automation, Industrial, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
•   Minimum 3 years’ as an electrical/ instrument Engineer or field engineering
•   Must have proven experience in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Authomations Direct, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, Toshiba, etc.
•   Must be able to create and read logic and flow diagram for programs design, programming, simulation and testing, and start- up
•   Preferably 5-10 years’ experience in mining maintenance field
•   Have a proven track record in programming leadership as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices as well as provide detailed documentation upon project completion
•   Has the skills of quality job execution, and able to plan jobs in coordination with colleagues, other departments
•   Well- developed English  oral, Written communications and report writing skills
•   MSHA training
•   Current driving license
