Job Vacancy For Deputy Government Statistician (General Services) At Ghana Statistics Service



Objective of the Position
To provide strategic leadership, technical and operational direction for the implementation of the programmes and activities related to the Directorates.

Duties & Responsibilities

•   Provides professional leadership and direction to the General Services Directorates in the planning, budgeting and implementation of activities within the framework of the GSS Corporate Plan and the national strategy for the development of statistics
•   Coordinates the development of strategic plans and annual budgets of the Service
•   Prepares and submits quarterly, annual and other periodic reports on the Services Directorates (including financial statements) to the Government Statistician
•   Provides strategic direction for the development and implementation of a fully functional ICT systems arid policies
•   Supervises the formulation and implementation of material, financial and human resources and other administrative policies of the Service
•   Coordinates the provision of resources for the implementation of programmes and projects of the Service
•   Provides strategic direction for the periodic review of the legal and institutional framework of the Service and the National Statistical System (NSS)
•   Provides technical support for the identification of the capacity needs of the GSS and the NSS and coordinates training of GSS and MDA/MMDA staff
•   Manages inter-agency technical advisory committees and convening regular meetings for the promotion of harmonized concepts and definitions, adoption of common methods and procedures, and maintenance of standardized classifications
•   Coordinates the substantive review and assessment of the performance of the national statistical system, through advisory and technical committees

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Demography/Population Studies, Sociology, Planning, Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Human Resource Management, Finance and Business Administration.
•   A minimum of eight years’ post-PhD qualification work experience in the relevant fields, in a reputable institution, five years of which must be in a senior management position.
•   Membership of a relevant professional association/body will be an advantage.
