Job Vacancy For Drilling Coordinator At World Vision International (Savelugu, Northern Region)

For over three decades, World Vision has been working with rural communities in all the 10 Administrative Regions of Ghana to provide portable water, promote sanitation and hygiene practices, quality education, particularly at the basic level, enhance food security and respond to disasters.

Job Title: Drilling Coordinator

Purpose of the position

Manage, organise, inspire and support the drilling team(s) for effective implementation of drilling campaigns by selecting appropriate drilling sites, designing, constructing, and interpreting geophysical data during drilling, and developing boreholes among others.

Major Responsibilities

•   Develop Annual Workplans together with the drilling team(s) and submit to the Field Operations Coordinator to incorporate into the Departmental workplan. The plan should reflect SMART activities and objectives in sufficient detail.
•   Prepare a detailed budget for the Annual Work plan of the drilling team(s) that feeds into the overall Annual Departmental Budget.
•   Ensure staff work with prescribed safety gears
•   Assess the capacity needs of staff and plan/facilitate relevant tailor-made training programmes for the drilling team members.
•   Assess the equipment/machinery needs of the drilling teams and ensure that they are adequately met
•   Develop a positive working relationship with all your direct reports (Drillers and Mechanics) and create friendly but professional relationship that supports stress-free work environment.
•   Provide technical interpretation from geophysical data for the selection of appropriate sites for drilling
•   With the support of the DM&E Specialist, develop materials and fuel supplies and consumption monitoring tools with respect drilling operations.
•   Produce periodic harmonised activity/process reports on the drilling efforts and submit to the Field Coordinator and copied Programme Manager.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Degree in Geological Science, Applied Geophysics, Geological Engineering or Hydrogeology.
•   Master’s Degree in Geological Science, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology or Water Resources Engineering is a plus
•   5 years of experience in relevant field

Competencies

•   Ability to study and understand the geological environment of project communities and other relevant issues such as geomorphology, topography, landuse among others that will point to the possibility of identifying groundwater resources for water supply mainly for drinking purposes and for other productive uses.
•   Ability to undertake fieldwork that may involve Geophysical studies to identify best sites for drilling
•   Must possess a valid driving licence.
•   Must be able to work under pressure and without supervision
•   Must be proactive with a high level of integrity, initiative, innovation, drive and a strong team player with interpersonal skills.
•   Ability to live and work in the field for quite some time (away from your family)
