Job Title: GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement and maintain safety, health and environmental policies and procedures, and ensure to maintain a healthy working environment;
• Keep and update plans, sections of pits slopes and respective hydrogeological regimes within and around the pit and other operational areas;
• Supervise in-pit and ex-pit hydrogeological situations and consequently advice on the location of sumps, ditches and drainage berms;
• Supervise the installation of piezometers in ex-pits boreholes and on tailings embankment;
• Plan and supervise drilling during geotechnical investigation for open pit and civil designs;
• Update Geotechnical database;
• Advice pit Supervisors and Mining Engineers on pit wall stability as required for open pit designs;
• Monitor drill and blasting activities that impact on the integrity of final pit walls, and advice on weaker grounds where drilling and blasting could be minimized;
• Undertake Geotechnical and Geological mapping using the scan line method;
• Identify learning needs of immediate team members and organizes or recommend appropriate training;
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Qualification Required & Experience

The following minimum qualifications and experience will be required:

• BSc. in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering from a recognized educational institution;
• Minimum of five (5) years’ post qualification work experience in a similar position;
• Previous work experience using 3D modelling software or similar software package;
• Generation of Geological and Geotechnical 3D models from data obtained from the field using geotechnical softwares;
• Excellent usage of geotechnical and mining softwares such as DIPS 7.0, SLIDES 6.0, SWEDGE, SURPAC and Micromine;
• Self-confidence and personal drive in supervising team members;
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal, organisational, technical and analytical skills;

• Good Cooperation and compliance with instructions and ability to work for long hours without supervision;
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills (i.e. English and Twi);
• Must have a valid Ghanaian driving license and ability to drive in rough terrain;
• Must be medically fit for the position and environment.
