The Bank invites applications from suitably qualified applicants for the following management position: Head, Risk and Credit Management Department

Role Summary

• To provide overall direction, strategic vision, leadership and technical expertise necessary in managing the enterprise risk exposure of RCBs and the Bank

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

• Update and maintain the Bank's Risk Management strategy & methodology, policies and providing guidance to the RCBs and assisting them with the development, implementation and updating of risk policies, procedures and the necessary operating manuals
• Directs and supervise the implementation of an effective risk management framework across the various risk types to ensure regular monitoring activities, timely identification and reporting of significant risks/losses including effective mitigation and control actions in the RCBs and in the Bank
• Manage the risk level of the Bank by ensuring compliance with all legislation and regulations
• Provide leadership in the proactive engagement of heads of departments/unit Heads and all the RCBs to promote co-operation and coordination while ensuring that business growth is balanced with active risk management
• Oversee operational risk assessments across the branch network and RCBs and investigation of breaches of standards, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures to be reported to the appropriate authorities
• Review proposals submitted by the credit manager on behalf of RCBs ensuring they are in line with the Bank's credit policy before they are presented to the management credit committee (MCC) or the board
• Establish and maintain a close working relationship the RCBs are submitted on time
• Manage, motivate and coach the enterprise risk team to ensure they are delivering their objectives in line with agreed standards and quality and where necessary implement development programmes to optimise competence and productivity
• Lead in the drive to create risk awareness by ensuring that all employees and the RCBs receive risk awareness training and that this is updated regularly to ensure proactive self-assessment to minimise the occurrence of incidents
• Oversee the management of the Bank's financial risks providing regular reports on its position and proactively advising on strategies and positions to take to mitigate potential risks that become apparent in the Bank's financial systems and operations
• Set up an early warning system which highlights RCBs in distress for the necessary action to be taken

Qualification Required & Experience

• A minimum of a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university, preferably in banking/finance, risk management or relevant finance professional qualification
• Membership of a recognized professional body
• At least 10 years post qualification working experience in banking and financial services sector 5 years of which must be in senior management position. At least 5 years experience in credit risk
