Duties:

The Librarian is the head of the Polytechnic Library. He/She shall be responsible to the Rector for the following duties:

•    Ensures that the library is stocked with current books, journals, non-book materials and other materials
•    Designs and implement an overall strategic plan for the development of the Polytechnic Library
•    Responsible for the implementation of the Polytechnic Library Manual
•    Recommends and implement appropriate systems that would create a seamless extension of the library that provides scholars with access to evaluated, organised and preserved information in any format
•    Ensures efficient running of the Polytechnic’s e-library; and
•    Responsible for preparation and control of the department’s budget

Qualification Required & Experience

The ideal candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:

•    Must possess a Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Studies or related discipline (PhD will be an added advantage)
•    Must have at least ten (10) years post-qualification experience in a Senior Management position in the field of Librarianship in a tertiary institution or relevant public service organisation.
•    Must have a strong knowledge of library management and evidence of ability to create and lead an academic library/information materials
•   Must understand critically the full process of modern library management and to cope with complex and varied responsibilities
•   Must have a strong knowledge of computers and I.C.T and their applications in libraries
•   Must have a proven record of scholarly work (authorship of books, journals articles, professional practice.

Terms of Appointment:

•   The appointment, which is full time shall be for 4 years in first instance, and may be subject to renewal for another 4 years

Terms of appointment

The successful candidate shall hold office for a term of four (4) academic years in the

•   Ph.D or Master’s Degree in Library Science/Information Management or related field
•   Ten years relevant experience, five (5) of which must be in a top management position
•   Must have proven expertise in academic library management

•   Strong knowledge of library management and evidence of ability to create and lead an academic library
