Job Objective

To be responsible for all cash transactions at the Takoradi Branch Office and ensure standards and compliance to corporate and statutory policies and proper documentation for all transactions.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Process all cash transaction reports in strict accordance with standards
• Receive and process cash from customers, balancing daily receipts and forwarding receipts for approval
• Write cheques for approved claims, commissions and other expenses/payments
• Pass the appropriate ledger entries on all payments and oversee cash inventory
• Lodge all cash and cheques received as per agreed timelines
• Conduct other business that may be assign by the Treasurer/Branch Manager
• Vet and issues receipts for manual transactions carried at the agency offices
• Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly returns on all financial transactions to the Finance & Accounts Department.

Qualification Required & Experience

• HND or related qualification in Accounting
• Foundation level in ACCA, ICA or CIMA will be an advantage.
• A minimum of 2 years post National Service experience
• Advanced computer literacy in MS Office
• Ability to preparation of financial reports and statements
• Numerical skills and attention to details.
• Knowledge of Computerized accounting programs

Overall Purpose of the job

• To prepare bank payment instructions through Electronic Banking and through Manual request

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• To ensure checks on and processing of payments

• To ensure that treasury transactions are carried out and recorded in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with the company policies and procedure
• To ensure the provision of an effective and efficient petty cash facility to meet the requirements of the company
• To prepare monthly and ad-hoc financial reports required by the management and budgeting and planning group for submission to head office
• Management of day to day activity of treasury function
• To ensure checks and clean-up of open items including assisting the Treasure Manager with open item checks and ageing analysis hence ensuring the payment of invoices within credit terms
• to also assist the Treasury and insurance manager with updates to the insurance registers and related tasks

Main Interfaces

• Internal: All departments for the acquisition of data and the elaboration and discussion of the reports

Qualification Required & Experience

• Accountant between 3-5 years of experience

Required competencies

• Economics & Financial background, knowledge in accounting (in particular with accounts payables and taxation)
• Also SAP knowledge would be a major plus

POSITION DESCRIPTION

• The Accountant, reporting to the Country Manager and working closely with the Operations Manager and Leadership Team, will provide accounting support to the national office and will undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures and capacity development of staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Treasury management of the Country Office, ensuring availability of cash based on approved workplans, timely submission of cash forecast to Head Office, reporting on variances against budgets
• Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly budget and financial forecasts
• Maintain general ledger entries, prepare trial balances, and reconcile accounts
• Prepare project financial reports, tracking performance against budget, and reporting on variances according to monthly close schedule
• Prepare regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with registration requirements; calculate taxes owing and prepares tax returns as required
• Submit to Head Office for approval monthly reconciliation between national reports to tax authorities and monthly project financial reports, provide explanation for any difference observed
• Prepare payroll and regulatory deductions
• Track accounts receivable/payable and processe advance requests and invoices for staff, partners, and suppliers
• Banking, processing bank deposits, including trips to the bank
• Obtain all supporting documentation – bank statements, invoices and receipts etc. – and maintain orderly filing system at the Country Office
• Document areas of risk, formulate controls, and take steps to reduce vulnerabilities
• Coordinate with Headquarters to ensure appropriate financial and administrative management and compliance with donor rules/regulations
• Lead annual budgeting exercise and collaborate with the Country Manager and other technical team leaders to ensure program activities are in accordance with the project budget and work plan
• Develop and provide training to staff on project financial processes and policies as well build capacity for budgeting, forecasting and reporting
• Perform other duties as delegated by the Country Manager

Qualification Required & Experience

• Applicant must be a citizen of Ghana
• A degree in Financial Management, Accounting or related field
• Chartered Accountant designation required
• 5 -7 years of demonstrated experience in project and business financial planning/management
• Advanced ability in developing project financial models, budgeting and forecasting tools
• Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
• Strong knowledge of generally-accepted accounting and procurement practices
• Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines
• Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required
• Advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Excellent accounting software user and must have experience of QuickBooks
• Idea candidate will have experience working in an international context and/or multi-country projects and • understand grants and contribution management
• Strong verbal and written English skills required
