Yara Ghana is looking for a Accounts Officer to join our Finance team.  The role will report to the Accounts Manager and will be based in Accra.

Responsibilities

•   Timely and accurate invoicing of sales to customers.
•   Ensure customer payments are timely and accurately posted and allocated.
•   Weekly receivables reporting and preliminary follow ups.
•   Perform customer accounts reconciliations and ensure any reconciliation issues with a customer are adequately and timely addressed.
•   Monitor credit insurance standards to ensure no loss is incurred within the terms of the cover.
•   Bank reconciliations – weekly bank reconciliations to ensure customer payments are timely captured. Ensure monthly bank reconciliations are completed before each monthly book closing. Proactive actions taken on reconciling items.
•   Reconciliation of other balance sheet accounts as required.
•   Liaison with the Commercial function and Logistics on inventory movements and sales.
•   Be part of the inventory count team to be involved in monthly counts.
•   Posting of financial transactions.
•   Support the monthly reporting process.
•   Prepare monthly cost analysis per cost centre vs budget and advice on variances to the budget.
•   Ensure proper filing of documents in the Finance department for easy retrieval.
•   Be a back-up for other Accounts Officers in the team, and train other colleagues in the team to be able to back up your role in your absence.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A degree holder with specialisation in Finance/Accounting.  Part qualified in a professional accountancy course (eg. ACCA, CIMA, CA) will be an advantage.
•   Minimum 2 years work experience in Finance/Accounting, preferably in a similar role.
•   Proficiency in excel.
•   Analytical mindset with an eye for detail.
•   Familiar with accounting software. SUN knowledge will be an advantage.

Perseus Mining is a dual listed (Australia, Toronto) gold miner and explorer focused on the West African region. Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited (PMGL) has recently commissioned the world-class Edikan gold project in the Western Region of Ghana.

Edikan Gold Mine (EGM) has a current mining reserve of 3.3M oz of gold from a resource base of 4.3M oz. The Edikan processing facility has been designed as a 5.5Mtpa processing facility with the ability to expand this to 8Mtpa in the future. The plant is capable of producing at a rate of 220-270,000oz gold

Job Summary

The successful applicant will report to the Compliance Manager and will have the
following responsibilities:

Tax Compliance: Ensuring that the Company is compliant with all the appropriate tax laws in Ghana and by liaising with Company’s Tax Consultants on the following:

•   Filing of Corporate Tax Returns and payment of any taxes thereof.
•   Prepare Transfer Pricing Returns for review and filing.
•   Filing of Expatriate Personal Income Tax Returns in accordance with Act 155
•   Ensure payment of monthly PAYE by the statutory due dates
•   Processing of Tax Clearance Certificates for company and expatriates for processing residence permits and other purposes
•   Liaise with the Ghana Revenue Authority on tax audits and act as the focal person to coordinate the timely completion of audits.
•   Filing of Value Added Tax Returns and making application for VAT claims refunds.
•   Keep an up to date record of all company tax payments in and approved format and distribute as instructed.

Secretarial: Ensuring that the company complies with its statutory obligation under any relevant laws and regulations with specific reference to the Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179). Generally, these will include the following:

•   Statutory records-maintain register and ensure requisite retention of documents and records
•   Prepare accurate Annual Returns for review by the Compliance Manager for filing.
•   Prepare returns in respect of change in Directors and Secretaries and any relevant statutory returns for review and filling.
•   Arranging and co-coordinating board meetings, shareholders meetings etc.
•   Compile and circulate Board papers to Directors prior to meetings
•   Attend meetings of Edikan Trustee as an observer and advise of statutory matters.
•   Ensuring adherence with the Company’s Regulations
•   Other matters as reasonably required by the Directors from time to time

Legal: Liaising with Company’s external lawyers to ensure legal Review and provide assistance to ensure speedy conclusion of cases.

•   Maintain a register of cases and periodically advice management on progress.
•   Conduct searches at courts and Registrar Generals Department and other institutions and required.
•   Formulate compliance check-lists to be used for the purpose of ensuring that all information required is provided accordingly
•   Continuously  monitor compliance with statutory obligations  and  advise management accordingly
•    Preparation of periodic reports for management.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, accounting option or Chartered Secretary
•   Working knowledge of the Ghana legal systems, tax laws and compliance standards relating to the Mining Sector
•   Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
