The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) seeks a Community Development Assistant to support its operations to improve the lives of children in cocoa growing communities. JOB FUNCTION Under the supervision of the ICI National Coordinator and in close collaboration with the Programme Associate, the Community Development Assistant will be responsible for initiating, executing, monitoring, collecting data and reporting on interventions related to the empowerment of communities and the protection of children within them.

The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) seeks an Income Generating Activities/Livelihood Associate to support communities with the implementation of IGA and Farmer Field Schools in ICI’s operational areas in Ghana.

JOB FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the ICI National Coordinator and in close collaboration with the Programme Associate, the IGA Associate will be responsible for initiating, executing, monitoring, collecting data and reporting on interventions related to the IGA / Livelihood activities and child protection in accordance with ICI’s programme objectives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

•   Support the development of other Income generating activities (IGA)and Livelihood interventions in the communities
•   Assist the Programme Associate with the planning of activities for the farmer field schools (Support the farmers in the execution of activities in the schools)
•   Liaise and supervise ICI implementing partners in the work related to IGA and FFS.
•   Monitor the IGA and farmer field schools including collection of regular data on progress of the schools and their correlation to child protection.
•   Plan and execute follow-up training activities for the farmers as directed by ICI.
•   Exercise oversight responsibility for the efficient and effective management of resources allocated to the Farmer Field Schools.
•   Prepare and submit reports on activities.
•   Support to the Programmes unit of ICI

Applicant must have:

•   Knowledge of the concepts of child protection and child labour including its causes, dimensions and effects;
•   Knowledge of international and national laws and policies on child labour;
•   A strong knowledge of the cocoa sector;
•   Very strong written and verbal communications skills in English;
•   Have good people-management skills;
•   Be able to initiate action at short notice, produce high quality results and able to work independently, as well as be a good team player;
•   Have a good training experience particularly at community level;
•   Experience in Income Generating Activities (IGA)  and Farmers field Schools implementation and monitoring
•   Be competent in Office Suites (Word, Excel, Power Point, conversant with using the internet).

Qualification Required & Experience

Applicant must have:

•   A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Planning or Social Sciences.
•   At least 4 years working experience in the agric. sector (work in cocoa sector will be ideal) or development field.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

The position is foreseen to be based in Accra (possibly subject to change in the future)   but will involve extensive travel to ICI operational areas in Eastern, Western, Central and Ashanti Regions.

LANGUAGES
Fluency in written and spoken English, and a Ghanaian language.

Job Summary

Assignment Overview

Scaling Seeds & Other Technologies Partnerships (SSTP) coordinates related but separate country and donor-financed programs to strengthen the seed sector and promote the commercialization or availability of technologies at scale through non-profit mechanisms that are critical for meeting seed adoption and yield gap goals.

The Program Assistant, SSTP will provide program and administrative support to the Country Office and assist the Country Officer and the Deputy Country Officer as directed. The position is Nationally Recruited on a two-year fixed term period and will report to the Country Officer.

Specific Responsibilities Will Include

•   Managing the day-to-day operational, financial operations and administrative activities of the office by organising the How of work and prioritising incoming requests including maintaining the Country and Deputy Country Officer’s agenda, paper work and a control system, with follow up to ensure timely responses.
•   Coordinating the flow of information between the SSTP country office, AGRA HQ and other partners ensuring follow up on action points as required.
•   Maintaining a physical and e-filing system and ensuring the filing of documents such as activity reports and travel plans for departmental staff are in the relevant files/folders.
•   Obtaining, compiling and extracting relevant information from files, publications, library, databases and other sources on own initiative or as directed by the Country and Deputy Country Officer. Collating data and information for SSTP reports.

•   Ensuring _ timely submission of all accounting information including timesheets, are submitted to HQ in accordance with AGRA policies and USAlD Rules and Regulations
•   Preparing and communicating with HQ on approval of purchases above set limit for country offices, in compliance with US AID rules and regulations
•   Liaising with the Travel Assistant to handle local and international travel logistics including, travel schedules, ticketing, visa applications, hotel accommodations and processing of travel expenses
•   Making necessary arrangements for meetings, workshops and conferences including drafting agendas and ensuring venues are booked and related resources are provided including background documentation
•   Undertaking special assignments for the Country Office such as logistics for events organized for donor visits, receptions, special meetings and other activities as assigned.

Qualification Required & Experience

Key Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:

•   Minimum of undergraduate degree or equivalent with formal secretarial training
•   Minimum 3 years’ experience in a closely related field

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Degree in Agriculture or related field.
•   Minimum of 3 years work experience (over and above national service) in rural, smallholder, livestock rearing development & extension, preferably with a variety of livestock (esp. small ruminants and pigs) and poultry in northern Ghana.
•   Experience in building capacity of farmers in livestock/poultry rearing, in both formal and informal settings.
•   Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis is considered an asset.
•   Environmental knowledge/work experience is considered an asset.
