BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

The position is based in the Tamale Satellite Office of USAID/Ghana and is responsible for chauffeuring USAID/Ghana staff and Temporary Duty (TDY) assignment visitors throughout the Northern Region of Ghana and surrounding areas as required. Assures vehicle has spare parts for in-country travel.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Pick up passengers for appointment and social occasions.
•   Drive passengers in-country to project sites within the Northern Region of Ghana.
•   Undertake a variety of errands throughout the Region.
•   Perform first-line repairs as required, e.g. changing tires, checking batteries, adding liquids.
•   Record daily mileage, gas consumption, repairs and maintenance on vehicles.
•   Perform other duties as required that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Education: Completion of Junior High School is required.
•   Prior Work Experience: Three to four years of Diver experience is required.
•   Language Proficiency: Level III English language proficiency is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
•   Job Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable of local traffic laws, city streets and traffic patterns, locations of major buildings, organizations, and government offices, shortest and safest routes to destinations and basic vehicle maintenance procedures. Knowledge of main routes within the Northern Region of Ghana and ability to read road maps in order to find safe and expeditious alternate routes. Must be able to perform first line maintenance/repairs. Proficiency will be tested.
•    Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to deliver passengers/materials expeditiously and safely. Must have local driver’s license appropriate to vehicles operated, ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in carrying out responsibilities. Must have the ability to interact with a wide variety of USG staff including visiting VIPs.

Salary Range: GH¢11, 427.00–GH¢17, 136.00 p.a. (depending on qualification and experience)
