Duties

•   Drive passengers daily to assigned destinations and ensuring their safety and comfort, as well as the safety of accompanying luggage.
•   Ensure that vehicle assigned is kept in good conditions (road worthiness and cleanliness) at all times.
•   Checking vehicle daily for any possible damage(s) or need for repairs and report the condition to the supervisor.
•   Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
•   Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable country and company regulations.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Valid driving licence (categories C – F with at least 4 years’ experience).
•   Excellent knowledge of Highway Code, both local and International.
•   Excellent human relationship skills.
•   Structurally fit to drive a bus.
•   BECE Certificate or higher.
•   Ability to rectify basic mechanical defects en route would be an advantage.

Job Profile     

The DFID-funded Girls – Participatory Approaches for Student Success in Ghana (G-PASS) programme is a four year project that will focus on the improvement of pre service teacher training sector in Ghana. This initiative in the long term seeks to improve education opportunities for girls by strengthening teaching practices in selected schools; promoting girl-friendly and learning-enabling schools; and securing better learning outcomes for students.

Drivers will be expected to provide driving support to the programme team, including short term and long term technical specialists thereby aiding in the delivery of the Programme’s goals and objectives. The drivers and fleet of vehicles form a major part of the programme’s support teams, and professional drivers are integral to the successful delivery of the logistics plan of each programme.

Job Summary    

•   Provide a courteous and efficient service to all internal /external customers, and act as a valuable first point of contact for external customers visiting the state / country.
•   Perform daily vehicle checks and report maintenance needs promptly.
•   Drive carefully and safely at all times in line with international driving standards, and checks to ensure that passengers, other road users and the vehicle in his care are safe.
•   Ensure that all vehicle reports are duly approved and prepared on a monthly basis; records of mileage, fuel and maintenance costs made available to supervisor on or before scheduled dates.
•   Maintain a professional appearance by ensuring good personal hygiene, and wears a clean and ironed uniform at all times.
•   Ensure that adequate knowledge of the destination and route is gathered before departure.
•   Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and roadworthy state at all times.
•   Ensure that approval for repairs is always obtained before taking the vehicle to the garage.
•   Ensure adherence to transport policy on vehicle usage.
•   Establish good and considerate working relationships with all staff in the organisation, demonstrating respect for their own roles and responsibilities.
•   Undertake missions work in areas other than normal location with overnight allowance if necessary.
•   Ensure compliance with local administrative procedures required in the event of an accident.
•   Ensure that vehicle equipment is well maintained

Candidate Specification     Essential competencies / skills

•   Valid driving license
•   Demonstrable defensive driving skills (in town and on dirt roads)
•   Good communication skills
•   Basic routine maintenance and vehicle handling skills
•   Excellent knowledge of the city and major motorways in Ghana
•   Willingness to be flexible and prepared to contribute to the company in other duties as required

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Certified professional driving training (preferred)
•   Fluent English & Twi
•   Previous experience of working within a multi-national team or project environment is highly desirable

Key Responsibilities

VEHICLE HANDLING

•   Drive Agency vehicle assigned in a defensive manner at all times.
•   Ensure that vehicles and related equipment are in place and in good working conditions at all times.

DOCUMENTATION

•   Fill out vehicle log sheets accurately and diligently at all times.
•   Report all faults and accidents promptly and correctly.
•   Ensure all maintenance records and log sheets are filed appropriately.
•   Vet all vehicle log sheets for correctness of all entries before information is captured in Vehicle Management System database.
•   Check fuel purchases from TOMCARDS receipts to VMS entries monthly to reconcile any differences.
•   Track performance of vehicles from Vehicle Management reports as well as repairs and maintenance costs and notify the Supervisor of any anomalies.

MAINTENANCE

•   Ensure all vehicles are regularly and promptly maintained and repaired to provide roadworthy vehicles at all time to meet operational and other needs.
•   Perform routine daily checks regularly and diligently in accordance with Agency policy.
•   Report faults and maintenance needs of vehicles and equipment to Supervisor.
•   Ensure that all tools and other accessories assigned are accounted for at all times.
•   Fuel vehicles using mainly the TOTAL TOM CARD.

OTHERS

•   Undertake any other assignments designated by Supervisor.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Senior Secondary Certificate with Five (5) years accident free driving record/experience.
•   Five (5) years possession of a valid driving license
•   Knowledge of vehicle maintenance
