Job Summary

World Vision Ghana (WVG) is looking for a highly qualified, proactive, and motivated person to fill the position of Mechanic / Driver.

Purpose of the Position
To provide services relating to repairs and maintenance of all assigned vehicles at optimum performance and undertake driving assignments.

Key Responsibilities

•   Perform routine and scheduled maintenance service of vehicles assigned to the project as specified by the manufacturer.
•   Diagnose defects and malfunctions in project vehicles and rectify same.
•   Maintain a record of service cycles and other repairs and maintenance activities conducted.
•   Identify potential hazard at the workshop, during maintenance and repairs or when driving and take corrective measures to prevent accident.
•   Report damages, defects and other issues above his capabilities to the supervising authority especially when vehicle is under warranty.
•   Place order for spare parts and complete all documentation involved.
•   Follow a check list and regularly inspect vehicle and accessories including fire extinguisher, duster, triangular reflectors, first aid kit, jacks, spare tire, etc. and keep record involved.
•   Facilitate movements of staff and goods by undertaking driving assignment.
•   Ensure that log book is always kept in project vehicle, entries regularly and accurately made and signed off by supervisor.
•   Maintain vehicle appearance by constant cleaning and washing.

Qualification Required & Experience

The Candidate must have:

•   Educational level required: Motor Mechanic Certificate (MVM) +4 years relevant experience
•   Motor Vehicle Technicians part 1 or 2(MVT 1/2) + 2 years of relevant experience
•   Professional driver’s license for at least 5 years, preferably with 4 wheel drive vehicles
•   Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills preferably on 4 wheel drive vehicles.
•   Modern method and knowledge of hybrid vehicles maintenance preferably on 4 wheel drive vehicles powered by diesel engines.
•   Ability to communicate effectively and write basic report
•   Strong interpersonal skills and communication
•   Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.

Overview
Under the authority of the Head of Accra Office & UNESCO Representative in Ghana and the direct supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services in support of UNESCO Accra Office, ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. Specific tasks for the post will be as follows:

•   Drives the UNESCO staff, officials, visitors and authorised personnel using official/ project vehicles. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services. Meets official personnel and visitors at the airport and, when required, facilitates basic visa and customs formalities. When necessary, translates in local language for the Head/Director of the Office and/or official personnel using the vehicle. Drives vehicle on field trips, as required.
•   Ensures cost-savings through proper day-to-day use of the assigned vehicle and accurate day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through daily vehicle logs, timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels and car washing so that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times. Provides inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports, etc. Arranges for the vehicle to be inspected and repaired at the officially designated workshop; checks the vehicle prior to and after the workshop visit
•   Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities. Ensures timely, accurate and correct reporting of accidents. Assist in installations and use of HF, VHF radio and satellite phone in the vehicle.
•   Delivers and collects mail and documents and other items as required. When not driving, may perform other duties, such as photocopying, binding, assisting with filing, paying some office bills, etc.
•   Undertakes the duties of other drivers when they are on leave.
•   Additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work team.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Education: Secondary School Education
•   Work Experience: At least 3 years or work experience as a driver in a international organisation, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record.

Skills/Competencies:

•   The incumbent needs to be punctual in all occasions.
•   The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
•   Must have respect for other road users.
•   Languages: Ability to communicate in written and spoken English and in local languages.

Purpose

Key Responsibilities
VEHICLE HANDLING

•   Drive Agency vehicle assigned in a defensive manner at all times.
•   Ensure that vehicles and related equipment are in place and in good working conditions at all times.

DOCUMENTATION

•   Fill out vehicle log sheets accurately and diligently at all times.
•   Report all faults and accidents promptly and correctly.
•   Ensure all maintenance records and log sheets are filed appropriately.
•   Vet all vehicle log sheets for correctness of all entries before information is captured in Vehicle Management System database.

MAINTENANCE

•   Ensure all vehicles are regularly and promptly maintained and repaired to provide roadworthy vehicles at all time to meet operational and other needs.

•   Report faults and maintenance needs of vehicles and equipment to Supervisor.
•   Ensure that all tools and other accessories assigned are accounted for at all times.
•   Fuel vehicles using mainly the TOTAL TOM CARD.
