The FARA Secretariat is the lead institution for Pillar IV of NEPADs Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) which encompasses agricultural research and technology dissemination and adoption. FARA works closely with sub-regional organizations (SROs) and national agricultural research and extension systems to ensure effective implementation of CAADP activities.

FARA’s mission is to create broad-based improvements in agricultural productivity, competitiveness and markets by supporting Africa’ sub-regional organisations in strengthening capacity for agricultural innovation.

FARA in partnership with its constituent Sub-Regional Organizations (SROs), the African Network for Agriculture, Agro forestry and Natural Resources Education (ANAFE), the African Technology Policy Studies network (ATPS) and the Pan African Agribusiness and Agro-industry Consortium (PanAAC) is implementing a five year Universities, Business and Research in Agricultural Innovation (UniBRAIN) initiative supported by The Royal Danish Foreign Ministry (DANIDA).

UniBRAIN’s Development Objective is for innovation and entrepreneurship derived jobs in the agricultural sector to be created through partnerships between universities, research institutions and the private sector.

The major components of the UniBRAIN Initiative are:

•   Agricultural business innovations developed in a conducive institutional setting linking universities, research institutions and private sector in Danida priority countries. These are in Eastern Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania; in West Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Ghana; in Southern African: Mozambique and Zambia
•   Agribusiness entrepreneurs and innovators produced by improving BSc and MSc agribusiness teaching and training
•   Innovation outputs, experiences and practices shared and up-scaled through improved networking and channels of communication.Implementation of UniBRAIN is facilitated by a team of institutions in which each member has, by virtue of its mandate and accomplishments, responsibilities for facilitating the involvement of particular categories of collaborating institutions and guiding the development of particular components.

Job Summary

The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa

DRIVER: Ref: FARA/adv./Driver/2013

FARA is the apex organization for agricultural research for development in Africa. The FARA Secretariat is the lead institution for Pillar IV of NEPADs Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) which encompasses agricultural research and technology dissemination and adoption. FARA works closely with sub-regional organizations (SROs) and national agricultural research and extension systems to ensure effective implementation of CAADP activities.

FARA an institution accredited with full diplomatic immunities by the Government of Ghana is seeking to recruit a highly qualified, well-groomed and ethically sound driver for its Top Executive.

With a fleet of six vehicles to be efficiently managed, the Chief Driver will have general oversight of the fleet and provide Fleet Management Information on a regular basis to Administration. He shall report to the Head, Human Resources and Administration and chauffer the Executive Director.

He shall perform among others the following duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

•   Have oversight of FARAs fleet maintenance and Corporate Transport Management System
•   Keep soft and hard log sheet including the Daily maintenance of official vehicle, ensuring they are clean and in good working condition
•   Provide guidance to FARAs pool drivers and manage this resource in a most efficient manner
•   Maintaining accurate daily vehicle log sheets and reports on fuel consumption
•   Responsible for the Executive Directors chauffeur services and requirements r during working and longer hours within and outside Ghana as directed
•   Perform any other duties as required

Compensation

This recruitment is pegged on full time General Service Staff salary and benefits.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Interested Applicants should be computer literate, smart looking, intelligent, able to use his/her initiative with minimal supervision, analytical, and confident.
•   S/he should possess a minimum of Polytechnic education, with a clean Professional and International Drivers License for both heavy duty and commercial vehicles.
•   Good knowledge of key establishments, Diplomatic Missions, Embassies, Ministries and sections of Accra is required.
•   Additional qualifications in vehicle mechanics or a related field and knowledge of French would be an added advantage.
•   Over 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably within an international organization and driving top Chief Executives is preferred.

The Transport section handles the day to day transportation needs of the High Commission.

The main elements of the job include:

•   Operating assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner
•   Maintaining defensive driving
•   Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers, and reads and interprets road signs in English
•   Presents safety briefing to passengers prior to each trip departure
•   Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside
•   Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on run.
•   Reports delays and accidents.
•   Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, customer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management
•   Reports defects or problems with vehicle to supervisor.
•   Perform minor vehicle repairs; skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions; and ability to administer First Aid,
•   Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required;
•   Fuels the assigned vehicle(s)
•   Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions
•   Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers, and rendering First Aid until emergency personnel arrive
•   Provides a communication link between customers and staff
•   Assists passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, lifts and securement devices as needed
•   Performs such other duties as may be required.

Qualification Required & Experience

Acceptable Experience and Training:

•   Must have basic education (O Level or SSCE or MSLC)
•   Must have a minimum 10 years driving experience
•   Must possess and maintain a safe driving record
•   Must possess the required valid Driving licence of CLASS F
•   Must have a good knowledge of driving in Accra and other parts of the country.
•   Special Requirements
•   Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, as well as at random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol tests.
•   Training on highway safety rules and regulations.
•   Must pass an annual physical examination.

The skills/attributes of the successful applicant will include

•   Assuming responsibility for tasks with minimum supervision, delivering to deadlines
