Job Vacancy For Post-Doctoral Fellowship At Kwame Nkrumah University (Kumasi)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the appointment to the following position in the University: Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana is implementing a research project on “Stimulating Local Innovation on Sanitation for the Urban Poor” with UNESCO-IHE and partners from other developing countries in Sub-Sahara Africa, South East Asia and America.

The two principal objectives of the project are:

•   To stimulate local innovation on Sanitation for the Urban Poor through research and
•   To strengthen the Sanitation Sector in developing countries through education and traiining

The project seeks to:

•   Increase the number of sanitation professionals in developing countries
•   Provide adequate research, education and training for the new generation of ‘all-round’ sanitary engineers
•   Make post-graduate education in sanitary engineering more accessible to individuals from developing countries, and
•   Further strengthen the pro-poor sanitation component at the academic institutions involved.

A vacancy for the position of Post-Doc Fellow currently exists at the Department of Civil Engineering for which a dynamic, credible and highly motivated qualified individual is required. The person must be resident in Ghana and preferably must have recently finished their PhD work in the subject theme that will be worked on. Reporting to the KNUST Project Leader, the Post-Doc Fellow shall:

•   Be responsible for mentoring the PhD students in Ghana
•   Be responsible for bringing the work of the three PhD students together by coordinating their research work in Ghana
•   Support the general operational management and coordination of the project in Ghana.

Quality Education Initiative Project is being implemented in collaboration with School for Life in Saboba and Chereponi Districts and the Ghana Education Service. The project is aimed at complementing the efforts of the Government of Ghana to improve quality education in the country. After piloting in the above two districts for a while, the project will be extended to three more districts in the Northern Region.

Qualification Required & Experience

•  A Bachelor’s Degree or above in education, administration, economics, public policy, social sciences, or related fields
•  Applicant should have three years teaching experience, preferably in Ghana
•  Management experience (at least 3 years) preferably in Ghana
•  Excellent organisational skills
•  Experience setting up administrative and financial management processes
•  Flexibility, self-motivation, team spirit and an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
•  Demonstrable ability to work successfully with diverse constitutencies and to work independently
•  Fluency in English, excellent writing and communication skills
•  Knowledge of at least one Northern language
•  Willingness to travel frequently in remote areas

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the position requires someone with excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills. Ability to accomplish multiple tasks on schedule and a strong sense of ethics is vital to succeed in this position.

Duties:
Admissions

•  Respond to students and parents enquiries
•  Take minutes in meetings
•  Prepare envelopes and labels for outgoing letters
•  Give administrative and secretarial support to admissions staff
•  Receive web enquiries and ensure they are forwarded to appropriate Admissions Officer
•  Send out letters and call secondary schools to schedule appointments for presentation
•  Prepare presentation packages such as Ashesi brochure, catalogues, application forms etc.
•  Enter prospective students data from applications into the database
•  Assist in making travel and accommodation arrangements for Admissions Director and Officers
•  Prepare application packages for sale
•  Receive visitors in the reception area and handle admissions specific inquiries
•  Schedule admissions interviews with prospective students
•  Follow up with wait listed applicants and ensure that their files are complete
•  Update admissions log sheet
•  Answer phone calls
•  Take messages on behalf of the staff and faculty members of Ashesi University College
•  Maintain orderly admissions filing system, ensuring that all student/applicant files are accurately catalogued
•  Maintain professional atmosphere in reception area
•  Perform all other admissions related duties as necessary

Other Duties:

•  Receive payments from students and receipt them accordingly
•  Track money from the sale of catalogues and application forms and report same to the accounts office
