Description Of Job

The Volta River Authority invites applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians for the under-listed position in its Environment & Sustainable Development Department.

Job Function:
Ensure safe steering and operation of VRA’s River Crafts to provide navigational services.

•  Liaise with Manger MSU/Navigation Supervisor to plan and execute navigational work assignments
•  Command the overall operation, crew and safety of assigned River Crafts
•  Responsible for the loading and unloading of passengers and cargo
•  Conduct search and rescue services on the Volta Lake in collaboration with other stakeholders, when need be
•  Ensure strict observance of Maritime Protocols and safety regulations
•  Inspect and ensure crafts and equipment on board such as engines, winches, navigational systems, fire extinguishers and lifesaving gadgets are well maintained
•  Maintain records of daily activiites, personnel reports, craft position and movements, ports of call, weather and Lake conditions among others

Remuneration: Highly competitve compensation package

Qualification Required & Experience

Job Requirements:

•  Tugmate/Tugmaster/Second Hand Certificates from Regional Maritime University
•  Plus nine (9) years experience as a Coxswain or Efficient Deckhand with Lifeboat certification

•  Must understand safe handling of crew and passengers
•  Must understand distress signal and know the INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANISATION Merchant Ship and Rescue Manual

Job Function:

•  Masters degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, Sanitation or related fields
•  Minimum of 5-8 years working experience in related activities with a minimum of three (3) in a position of team leadership/management
•  Ability to represent SWN and to develop strong relationships with existing and potential partners
•  Strong project management skills with experience with complex multifaceted projects that have resulted in measurable successes and program growth
•  Proven ability to deliver on time and within budget
•  Ability to operate in a start-up environment, requiring a highly focused but appropriately flexible exercise of resources and judgment
•  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
•  Proficiencies in computer applications including Auto CAD

Job Purpose:
To manage inventory and other Consumables, with the objectives of achieving the highest service level to production

Department and minimising investment in stock Holdings.

Output
Stores Re-organisation:

•  Design and plan the layout of the engineering stores according to Equipment type and sub-assemblies
•  Ensures easy Identification, retrieving of spares and consumables
•  Preparation of equipment index, coding system and location codes for standardization

Inventory Management:

•  Determine stock levels of engineering spares held in inventory
•  Ensures that balances are always in line with engineering and Production requirements
•  Periodically review stock levels to ensure that stock levels are in line with operational requirements
•  Responsible for the replacement and replenishing of spares at the stores by issuing requisitions to the purchasing

Departments
•  Review engineering spares and consumables periodically to identify obsolete and redundant materials
•  Liaise with the appropriate people to ensure proper disposal
•  Recommend to management, additions and deletions to inventory as a result of operational changes

Physical Security:

Ensures that adequate security precautions are exercised at the Engineering stores during working and non-working
hours

Safety:

Ensures that appropriate handling devices and safe working conditions prevail at the stores

Accounting for materials:

•  Periodically liaise with the finance department and take stock of all spares and consumables at the stores
•  Ensures that material records are adjusted with the Finance Department after declared discrepancies

Qualification Required & Experience

Education and Experience Requirements:

•  A degree/HND in mechanical Engineering or a related field
•  Five years’ experience in managing an engineering store
•  Working knowledge of planned maintenance procedures and systems
•  Working knowledge in Microsoft office applications
•  Ability to plan and forecast accurately

•  Ensuring the maintenance of quality control and safety standards at all sites
•  Liaising with Head Office on all engineering related issues
•  Representing the organization on all on all engineering and construction related issues

•  Ability to plan and design small rural civil engineering projects
•  Field experience working with contractors is a plus
•  Experience in the water sector a plus, but not necessary
