Job Vacancy For Head for the Accra Area Blood Centre At National Blood Service (NBS)

The National Blood Service (NBS) seeks to employ a Head for the Accra Area Blood Centre, based at the premises of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Job Purpose:
To provide technical and managerial direction to the Area Blood Centre in accordance with the NBS policies and strategies.

Roles and Responsibilities:

•  Lead in the analysis, interpretation and application of NBS policies to guide operations at the Blood Centre
•  Ensure that both technical and administrative programmes are adequately catered for in costed Blood Centre plans
•  Develop initiatives to motivate staff of Blood Centre
•  Ensure that there is adequate management capacity in the Blood Centre
•  Ensure availability of adequate safe blood and blood components in the Blood Centre
•  Advice clinical doctors in the catchment area of the Blood Centre on blood products availability and usage
•  Ensure efficient utilisation of resources of the Blood Centre
•  Monitor the implementation of NBS policies in the Blood Centre
•  Lead in setting research agenda for the Blood Centre and Commission research into issues relevant to the NBS
•  Provide technical advice to the Director, NBS as may be required
•  Regularly evaluate the overall performances of the Blood Centre
•  Submit timely and regular reports on the Blood Centre to the Director, NBS

Qualification Required & Experience

Person Specification:
The aspiring candidate should,

•  Have a MBBS, MD, or MB ChB and a qualification in management with a minimum of 7 years post qualification experience
•  A Postgraduate qualification in blood transfusion, haematology, immunology, microbiology or any sub-specialty in Laboratory Medicine is desirable
•  Must be able to serve in the position for a minimum period of four (4) years

Key Responsibilities:
DFID Ghana would like to recruit a dynamic health professional with good knowledge of the Ghanaian Health Sector to help manage and deliver results for DFID’ s significant and growing investment in the health sector in Ghana.

•  The Health Adviser’s main responsibilities will be working with the Senior health Adviser to design, advise on and monitor DFID’s health programmes which focus on health sector support/health systems strengthening, maternal and reproductive health, and malaria.
•  The successful candidate will report to the Senior Health Adviser and work closely with programme managers, as well as contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the Human Development and Social Protection team to deliver the overall results

Qualification Required & Experience

Pre-requisites:

•  The successful applicant will possess a Master’s degree in Public Health or similar in addition to at least 3 years relevant working experience in the health sector in Ghana

Description Of Job

Job Location: Akatsi

Background Information:

To contribute towards the reduction in maternal and child mortality by improving delivery conditions, ANC and PNC services in the Akatsi District

Responsibilities:

•  In collaboration with the Project Manager, coordinate and monitor the implementation of the project in the Akatsi District
•  Assist in liaising with the Akatsi District Health Directorate in discussing implementation modalities of project
•  Facilitate regular meetings with key stakeholders to review project
•  Maintain operational databases for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project and ensure proper documentation of program documents;
•  Provide comprehensive analysis of project activities (including participation trends, evaluation forms for impact analysis) and assist in reporting progress of implementation
•  Assist in drafting quarterly project reports
•  Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualification Required & Experience

•  The ideal candidate must have a minimum of diploma in social work
•  Candidate must have at least 2 years working experience in the health sector with emphasizes on maternal health
•  Must have ability to organize and coordinate field activities
•  Possess strong verbal and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills
•  Must be prepared to work in the communities with up to 80% of the time being in the communities
•  Have working knowledge in MS office
•  Must be fluent in Ewe and from the project area would be preferable
•  Holder of Driver’s license will be an added advantage
•  Candidates must be 25 – 34years
