Job Description

PURPOSE:
Reduce operating costs, improve equipment availability and maintenance  efficiency by providing real-time mining equipment health monitoring, utilizing tools provided in Ahafo’s fleet management system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

•  Perform mining equipment health monitoring utilizing, but not limited to, on and off-board tools available in Akyem’s electronic fleet management system as well as tools available from the respective equipment OEM’s.
•  Develop  and implement existing and new monitoring tools and analytical techniques with particular emphasis on cost reduction, safety, equipment performance and maintenance efficiency improvements,
•  Report equipments condition periodically in order to plan and schedule related maintenance and repairs.
•  Alert in a timely manner about severe abnormal conditions, mechanical or operational, in order to avoid major failures or extended downtime.
•  Ensure department’s compliance with the requirement of Government of Ghana Agencies, lending institutions, shareholders’ interests, environmental, health & safety legislation and company regulation
•  Responsible for Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility policies. Creates a suitable work environment to motivate staff, employees and contractors to achieve optimum effectiveness, productivity and operating costs.
•  Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every mine worker under or assigned to his/her supervision

Qualification Required & Experience

•  2 years maintenance operations experience at the supervisor or higher level directly responsible for the maintenance of major mining equipment;
•  Knowledge of computer management tools such as Minestar, Modular Dispatch, VIMS, and Ellipse is recommended.
•  Experience in use of condition monitoring  techniques and tools is desired.
•  Advanced computer skills.

•  Act as liaison and representative between NGRL’s contractors and vendors particularly in regards to invoice status and contractor requirements to ensure efficient processing of same.
•  Support effective communication within the Contract Department and proper dissemination of information.
Give work direction, resolve problems, prepare schedules and set goals and deadlines to ensure timely completion of duties.

Job Summary

Purpose
The purpose of the HSLP Coordinator Role is to carry out the requirements of the Integrated and Health Safety and Loss Prevention Management Systems for the Ahafo operations.

Key Accountabilities
Position Specific

•  Develop and administer Newmont programs to prevent accidents/incidents and loss due to processing activities including plant maintenance.
•  Assist line management to develop and maintain a culture of “Safe Production”.  Provides advice to line management regarding hazard identification, risk management, safety rules, regulations, trends, statistics and compliance.

• Maintain sound ethical Standards within the department and report any deviations to materials Manager.
• Continuously seek Opportunities for improvement in the supply chain (lead times, pricing and contracts).
• Discussing, and if possible eliminating inconsistencies with tenders.
• Preparing tender analysis schedules summarizing prices and evaluating omissions and differences. Negotiating with the favored tenderers to remove, contain or limit risk areas and other contractual anomalies. Recommending the most commercially acceptable tender to the originator.
• Assist the Inventory Controller / Cataloguing officer as required.

2. Drafts contracts / order documents and amendments thereto by:

• Interpret and evaluate the originator’s instructions
• Ensure the scope of the contract / order /amendment is clear, comprehensive and free of ambiguities

3. Attend to administrative functions associated with enquiries, contracts / orders and amendments

5. To investigate and review the contractual process and report on weaknesses and deficiencies found therein:

• Identify potential for improving contractual conditions and work procedures and report thereon.

• Identify areas of potential risk and financial loss to the Business Units relating to contractual conditions, policies and procedures.

Main Responsibilities:

•  Manage all activities related to Operations Planning, including the planning and control of flow of materials through the manufacturing process and delivery
•  Together with the Operations Manager, design and deploy planning processes at Subsidiary level to align with corporate policies
•  Develop plans to support the Sales Forecast
•  Ensure that the desired level of customer service is maintained
•  Interface between manufacturing planning & control, and the customers to keep a balance between demand and supply

Qualification Required & Experience

Skill and Competency Requirements:

•  Strategic and business vision
•  Project management and activity follow up
•  Internal and external client orientation
•  A University degree in Engineering or Business Administration
•  A minimum experience of five years’ in a logistics department preferably in a similar role
•  Knowledge of Global supply chain management principles, logistics regulation related to hazardous materials, Lean Manufacturing principles
•  Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
•  Fluency in English, other languages are valued

Job Summary

DEPT –   HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

•  Key responsibilities are not limited to the following:
•  Perform, with a considerable degree of independent accountability, technical work in support of a department’s core functions and processes.
•  Assist in providing environmental leadership and support to achieve the mine’s rehabilitation and closure outcomes with certainty.
•  Ensure a reliable and accurate growth monitoring program to meet legal and other requirements.
•  Responsible for maintenance of the NurseryResponsible for planning and direct supervision of all rehabilitation projects on the mine.
•  Ensure availability of adequate seedlings for rehabilitation work every year.
•  Monitor topsoil removal, stockpiling, and labelling and document as well as periodically update the mine topsoil accounting.
•  Assist in the planning and implementation of site rehabilitation programs and activities.
•  Assist in the coordination of waste management activities on the mine.
•  Collaborate with Mining Department in the stripping and storage of topsoil.
•  Identify resource needs for rehabilitation of steep slopes, waste dumps, pits abandoned drill pads and other disturbed areas that warrant rehabilitation.
•  Draft rehabilitation budget each year taking into cognisance all disturbed areas.
•  Assist in coordinating activities with Forestry Commission on tree enumerations, forest entry permitting, and reforestation programme.
•  Collate data for required environmental reports.
•  Provide technical assistance to the Department

Qualification Required & Experience

•  BSc. in Agricultural Science, Forestry or Natural Resources
•  A minimum of 18 months experience in mine rehabilitation
•  A good knowledge of indigenous timber species in  Ghana
•  Must be conversant with Environmental Management of forest resources in principle and in practice
•  Familiarity with Environmental Resource Management and Guidelines for Mining in productive forest reserve.
•  Must possess a Ghanaian driver’s license with good and defensive driving skills

Computer literate

•  Have to be able to work without supervision and under strict timelines.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

•  Surface Mining Operations including Exploration activities
•  Disturbed and Rehabilitated sites
•  Other duties as assigned.

The operation has a mining rate around 24 Mtpa and a processing rate of 4.4 Mtpa. The mine is situated in a tropical climate in the Western Region of Ghana.

Job Summary

Purpose of the job:
The Engineering Department of Damang Gold Mine is currently seeking to employ a Chief Engineer to manage and control all engineering activities of the Process plant, Mine Infrastructure and Accommodation. These activities will include the management and control of a comprehensive maintenance and repair process. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for effective people management and machine safe practices in accordance with Gold Fields Ghana Standards and Procedures, effective operational cost control, sound equipment availability/reliability and performance, risk mitigating initiatives and contract management as well as identify, implement and manage continuous improvement projects and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Ensure that sound principles of Health and Safety are in line with Gold Fields standards and procedures
•  Ensure that equipment availability and performance to meet approved targets
•  Ensure that effective engineering standards and procedures are developed, sustained, and implemented in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements
•  Ensure that operational cost control is maintained to set budget targets
•  Ensure effective liaison with Government agencies such as the Inspector of Machinery to ensure that engineering services are delivered to the standards set by these agencies
•  Ensure that effective training and development of staff is implemented and sustained to enhance staff technical ability in preparation for more senior positions
•  Ensure that effective interaction with operational personnel is upheld to optimize equipment performance, reliability and utilization

Qualification Required & Experience

•  A tertiary qualification in the field of Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
•  A Government Certificate of Competency – Must possess a Engineering Superintendent ticket
•  Work experience on a processing plant and equipment such as Krupp gyratory and Sandvik, Nordberg and Excel cone crushers, Polysius grinding mills, conveyor systems, CIL plant equipment including agitators, linear screens, Outotec thickeners, carbon regeneration kilns, elution circuit and electro-winning circuit
•  Sound business acumen and the ability to influence the main cost drivers in a plant environment
•  Results-orientation skillls to manage all mine maintenance and project work
•  Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, as well as the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures
•  Computer literacy in Microsoft Office/MS Project and a working knowledge of planned maintenance software packages (SAP PM)
•  A minimum of ten years technical experience in a maintenance function on process plant
•  A minimum of three years management experience at the level of Chief Engineer or Plant Superintendent level supported by the relevant appointment documentation
•  Technical problem solving and failure analysis, capabilities, with special emphasis on crushers, grinding mills, conveyors, CIL and elution circuits and pumping circuits for slurry, water and reagents
•  Sound understanding of medium voltage power distribution networks and the supply and synchronization of emergency power generation with a national grid
•  A sound understanding of plant process control, instrumentation and SCADA systems
•  Medical fitness for the position and environment
