As part of a team of WASH Advisors, the Senior WASH Advisor will be working at macro (national) and meso (districts and regions) levels.

SNV Ghana is seeking to recruit a results-oriented and proactive Ghanaian Senior Advisor with strong knowledge and experience in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector to among others:

•  Boost the quality, visibility and relevance of SNV expertise in WASH and make SNV Ghana a bench mark in the WASH sector
•  Support strategic partnership building, business development and resource mobilization drive of the WASH team.

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Strategic positioning/Resources mobilization

•  Be a lead player in WASH country strategy, resulting in the right strategic choices for SNV within the WASH sector
•  Play a leading role in identifying and assessing the impact potential of proposed SNV investments in the WASH sector
•  Provide substantive inputs and guidance for the decision-making with regard to portfolio/national WASH positioning and development.
•  Support SNV’s management in mobilization of resources for its advisory support to clients as well as brokering funds for clients with third party financing agencies.

2. Advisory Practice:

•  Support Clients/Partners in a multi-stakeholder approach and stimulates building effective networks and partnerships between them.
•  Facilitate the micro – macro divide for improved policy formulation and implementation  based on an evidence based approach
•  Facilitate evaluation and impact assessment of the programme interventions both at Client/Partner level and beneficiary level.

3. Learning / teamwork:

•  Support networks and collaboration with partnerships with similar and complementary initiatives, undertaken by other organizations, institutions and programmes.
•  Provide leadership in developing and strengthening SNV knowledge base in WASH, at organisational and (through assignment based coaching) individual levels.

4. Knowledge management/development:

•  Introduce/share international best practices on WASH with clients, partners and team.
•  Document results and best practices in the form of case studies, advisory practice experiences, training materials together with the clients and the team, and present study and research findings at relevant forums. Active support to WASH advisors in developing case studies.

Contract period: One (1) year renewable

Qualification Required & Experience

Educational background:

•  Master’s degree in Water Resource Management, Sanitary Engineering, Public Health or other relevant degree with specialization in water sanitation and hygiene service provision.

Work experience:

•  8-10 years of experience in water resource management and/or WASH service delivery including 5 years as senior advisor or consultant
•  Sound knowledge of WASH approaches and concepts and demonstrated experience with service delivery mechanisms, including financial management and cost recovery mechanisms
•  Application of theoretical models related to development processes, and institutional (inter-organizational development (Capacity Development Services)
•  Knowledge of good (water) governance practices, gender-sensitive and empowerment principles approaches
•  Strategic analysis of WASH environment both nationally as well as internationally
•  Strong writing skills and publishing articles on WASH
•  Advocacy, networking / lobbying and knowledge brokering and knowledge development
•  Knowledge of the legal and institutional framework for WASH service delivery in Ghana
•  Ability to build partnerships to mobilize  resources from donors both locally and international

Languages:

•  Proficient in English and working knowledge  in French

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Master’s in business administration, finance, accounting, human resources, or other relevant field.
•  Minimum seven years’ work experience in a management of an international non-profit, development, and/or humanitarian organization. At least two years of this should be in a developing country outside candidate’s country of origin.
•  Excellent leadership, team coordination skills
•  Understanding of CRS financial and administrative systems (Sun Systems and Vision accounting software), policies, and procedures preferred.
•  2 years’ experience managing large, complex U.S. government awards; knowledge of relevant regulations.
•  3 years’ experience  in  procurement and general office administration/management
•  Current knowledge of labor laws governing the Republic of Ghana.
•  Ability to work in a complex environment and to lead and work with a multi-cultural team.
•  Computer literate in MS Office, internet, email with strong analytical abilities.

Background

Work in close collaboration with CRS, UDS and GHS Finance Department to ensure compliance to GHS and CRS regulations and policies as well as donor regulations and best practices.

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Master’s Degree (or University degree) in Public Health, Nutrition or Nursing with at least three years of experience in managing health related programs;
•  At least five years’ experience in increasingly responsible positions in Maternal and Child Survival Programming
•  2 years’ experience with USAID funded health projects.
•  2 years’ experience as Project Director (preferably consortium manager)
•  A demonstrated leader with excellent communication skills in written and oral English
•  Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to effectively lead teams
•  Ability to work to meet deadlines in multiple tasking environments.
•  Working Environment: This position is based in Tamale and will require frequent travel to the project district, to Accra and occasionally outside Ghana

To direct and regulate daily work schedules for the Transport and Maintenance unit to enhance optimum management of office vehicles and equipment.

Major Responsibilities:

•  Ensure new vehicles for the organisation are processed at the DVLA to ensure they are fully registered in compliance with the legal requirements of Ghana
•  Ensure all required documentations on vehicles are current and up to date (renewals on road worthiness, insurance etc)
•  Provide supervision to the team of mechanics and transport technicians in the areas of work scheduling and performance appraisals
•  Ensure adequate stock levels for consumable spares and lubricants
•  Ensure maintenance schedules for both field and head office vehicles are adhered to
•  Liaise with P&C, Police and Insurance company on accident procedures involving organizational vehicles and staff
•  Generate and submit report on activities – repair and maintenance transport services, number of renewals etc

Qualification Required & Experience

Job Specification:
Educational and Experience:

•  Degree in Mechanical Engineering + 2 years experience one of which should have been in a supervisory position with administrative responsibility or
•  HND (Eng) or MVT 3 + 4 years experience, two of which should include some administrative and supervisory experience

Added Advantage:

•  Familiarity with the usage of a vehicle trackling system
•  Experience with diesel engines
•  Computer Literacy
•  Professional Drivers’ License – 8000 kg
•  Must be flexible as may be called upon at odd hours
