Internship Opportunity For Ghanaian University Students At CDD-Ghana (Apply Now)

CDD-Ghana ( Center for Democratic Development) is pleased to announce its Democracy and Governance Internship Program for Ghanaian university students

Objective

•   To offer opportunities for three promising undergraduate and post-graduate students to develop an interest and skills in research, analysis and advocacy in Ghanaian/African democratic development and good governance in our Tamale and Accra offices

Eligibility

•   Prospective level 300 and 400 undergraduate and post-graduate students majoring in social sciences, humanities and law in any Ghanaian public university

Duration: A maximum period of ten (10) weeks (June 2 to August 4)

Awards: A monthly stipend of Five Hundred (500 cedis) Ghana cedis

Application Procedure:

•   Write to the Head of Programs, with a CV stating at least your program of study, level, most recent Grade Point Average (GPA) and any research experience you have
•   Indicate your interest in issues of Ghanaian/African economic or democratic development or good governance.

Applications must be accompanied by a word-processed essay presenting your views on the topic : “In spite of the provisions of article 199(1), which provides for a public officer to retire from public service on attaining the age of sixty years, the Constitution of Ghana also gives tenure to the heads of constitutional and governance bodies such as the Electoral Commission, commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and the National Commission for Civic Education until age 70. What in your opinion are the implications of these provisions (tenure) to democratic governance in Ghana?”

Job Summary

Primary Assignments:

•   Review available literature, drawing on internal and external sources and experts
•   In collaboration with experts and industry corporate partners, compile and analyze data and draw conclusions
•   In consultation with the CEO and corporate partners, interview experts and draft several case studies
•   Help organize and manage internal and external collaborators to ensure project coordination and quality of outputs
•   Collating management, governance and ecological data from multiple data sources
•   Desktop research for local, national and regional contextual data
•   Summarize key points from technical papers or conduct literature reviews
•   Monitoring reporting and Verification
•   Design and organize public panel discussions
•   Track and assess emerging ideas
•   Help with event logistics.
•   Draft blog posts on various topics.
•   More specifically, the intern will
•   Acquire familiarity with sustainability development concepts
•   Gain analytical skills for and insights into the business case for adopting sustainability standards
•   Acquire first-hand experience in the role that non-profits and private sector plays in conservation and sustainability
•   Acquire familiarity with companies’ sustainability policies and financial institutions’ social and environmental safeguard policies
•   Gain experience in non-profit advocacy research and publishing
•   Acquire experience in working in a cross-cultural work environment

More specifically, the intern will:

•   Acquire familiarity with sustainability development concepts
•   Gain analytical skills for and insights into the business case for adopting sustainability standards
•   Acquire first-hand experience in the role that non-profits and private sector plays in conservation and sustainability
•   Acquire familiarity with companies’ sustainability policies and financial institutions’ social and environmental safeguard policies
•   Gain experience in non-profit advocacy research and publishing
•   Acquire experience in working in a cross-cultural work environment

Minimum Requirements:

•   Undergraduate or graduate and majoring in a related field (e.g. environmental studies, international development, environmental economics, public policy, political science, etc.).
•   Must be able to work efficiently and independently, remaining flexible to tasks and shifting priorities.

Preferred attributes

•   Graduate with a major in environmental policy, environmental economics, or public policy.
•   Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; strong interpersonal skills crucial for developing working relationships internally and externally; strong organizational skills; and attention to detail.
