Head of Boarding Job Specification:
The Role:

•   The Head of Boarding has a pivotal leadership and management role to play within the School.
•   As Head of Boarding he/she is accountable in the first instance to the Vice-Principal, the Principal and to parents.
•   She/he is resident in School and responsible to the Vice-Principal for the welfare and pastoral care of the Boarders

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

•   Ensuring the School’s boarding ethos and aims, pastoral objectives and Code of Conduct are communicated regularly and effectively to boarders, boarding staff and parents
•   Working closely with Vice-Principal to ensure the School delivers a high quality of personal pastoral care and to alert him/her of individual concerns regarding boarders and hostel guardians
•   Implementing the School’s Child Protection Policy within the Boarding environment
•   Ensuring that UNICEF’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) standards and recommendations are met
•   Nurturing and managing a fair and consistent approach to and system of discipline, sanctions and rewards within the boarding environment
•   Leading, managing and supporting the boarding team, offering immediate accessibility whenever on duty, enabling them to carry out their roles effectively and efficiently, and with the appropriate levels of autonomy
•   Being fully accessible to parents and students at the start of semester and holidays and to welcome, greet and reassure them on their return
•   Liaising through the Vice-Principal to the Facilities Manager and/or the School Administrator and making necessary recommendations regarding good maintenance of the School’s boarding accommodation and environment
•   Securing effective liaison and good relations with support departments and staff
•   Taking responsibility for the boarding side of the Health and safety, working closely with the School’s Administrator in this regard.
•   Hostels evacuation procedures, Fire officer for the Boarding Houses and Health and Safety Committee member

Leave Period:
Depending on the needs of the school the Head of Boarding is entitled to a minimum of 6 weeks annual leave
