Major Responsibilities/Duties

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Registered Nurse Certificate plus a minimum of Diploma in Health Science Education from a recognised University.
•   The Applicant should be on the minimum rank of Principal Health Tutor or Principal Nursing Officer (Education)
•   A rank of Deputy Chief Health Tutor or Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS)-Education, will be an added advantage

Experience

•   Preferably at least Eight (8) years of practicing tutorship in public (government or religious mission) health training institutions. Previous experience as Vice Principal or Programme Head is unique to the position.

Other Qualifications

•   A certificate or diploma in management, public administration, educational administration, and educational policy and management will be an added advantage.

Other Requirements

•   Preferably mechanized onto the Controller and Accountant General’s Department payroll of the Government of Ghana
•   Hardworking, team-spirited and results oriented man or woman
•   A Christian with demonstrated commitment to train young nurses in Christ for Ghana

Job Vacancy For Assistant Director For Academic And Student Affairs At New York University In Accra

Position Summary:
This full-time position works directly with students, their faculty, administrators at the Accra site, as well as advisors and other staff in NY or the portal campuses.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
General 25%

•   Assist in the creation, implementation and communication of academic policy and programmes, including education and student research, at the site
•   Act as main point of contact for student academic matters
•   Assist in the creation, implementation and communication of new academic programmes as appropriate. Supervise the smooth and effective running of academic affairs at the site
•   Assist with overseeing the work and duties of any Academic Affairs professional or student assistant
•   Liaise with other higher education providers for strategic partnerships
•   Teach at least one course each semester for the experiential learning programme
•   Manage and oversee the Student Life programmes
•   Other duties as assigned by the Site Director

Registration And Student Academic Support – 20%

•   Assist students with academic related questions
•   Assist students with orientation to NYU Accra and reintegration to NYU NY
•   Advise students on academic pathways to and from NYU NY and portal campuses
•   Manage the registration process for students: coordinating advisement, processing enrollment, and assisting students returning to NYU NY
•   Assist other NYU and visiting students with registration for classes at the site and with their registration in preparation for their return to NYU NY
•   Assist all students with the processes for Drop/Add, Pass/Fail, and Withdraw and monitor student progressions
•   Assist in providing general support to students over class issues and complaints
•   Make the necessary arrangements for students requiring academic accommodations such as extra time in exams, note-takers, audio textbooks, etc.
•   Assist in the general provision of academic support to students with disabilities at the site
•   Monitor excused absences (non-medical) for students
•   Help to resolve issues of student academic conduct including class behavior, attendance problems, etc.
•   Manage the Academic Disciplinary process for students

Class And Faculty Support -15%

•   Assist with the creation, oversight and review of syllabi
•   Responsible for the timetabling process
•   Assist with the creation of new class offerings, changes to existing offerings and course approvals
•   In liaison with the Director, help in the process of teaching faculty recruitment
•   Assist with the orientation of new faculty
•   Assist the Director with the planning of faculty meetings
•   Provide support and advice to faculty, particularly in matters related to course material acquisition and implementation of learning management information
•   systems  including NYU Classes (the NYU  online learning environment)
•   Maintain regular contact with Global Coordinators at NYU NY, as well as Global Deans at the New York cam¬pus and Shanghai and Abu Dhabi portal campuses. Work with Site Specific Advisory Committee as needed.

Grades & Record-Keeping -15%

•   Support the Site Director with the oversight of grading – monitoring standards, timely submission of grades by faculty, coordinating complaints and appeals.
•   Ensure the appropriate maintenance of academic records with reference to FERPA (US law related to student information privacy) and data protection requirements (Ghanaian and US)
•   Maintain records for students of grades, attendance, class offerings, etc. according to correct procedures
•   Administer and review class and programme evaluations

Other Academic Activities -15%

•   Plan, deliver and review academic orientation each semester
•   Work with site faculty to approve, schedule and plan Co-Cumcular visits and activities; liaise with the Student Life and Finance staff to make bookings and communicate arrangements to students.
•   Coordinate Public Programming events (such as lectures and faculty book launches)
•   In addition to providing academic support for successful delivery of the Fall and Spring semesters, assist with the planning, staffing and delivery of January and summer term programmes, as appropriate
•   Assist in the collaboration with NYU NY library staff to provide electronic access to academic and class-related resources, as well as the purchasing of academic resources
•   Establish and maintain successful partnerships with partner libraries for NYU student access
•   In conjunction with the Global Academic Affairs team, review and update website information, registrar’s information, NYU Classes information and NYU publications, etc. in order to maintain accurate information relating to site academics
•   Help coordinate and communicate external academic opportunities to students, including undergraduate research.
•   Handle day-to-day enquiries relating to academic matters from students, parents, external organisations, faculty, site and NYU NY staff
•   Support graduate research students as required.
•   Administer, monitor and review the local implementation of the NYU online Learning Management System.
•   Conduct annual reviews of the academic programmes at NYU Accra, including benchmarking with other Global Sites, and contribute to the implementation of continuous quality improvement of education and student research activities at the site.

Internships -13%
Assist with establishing, implementing and monitoring the student Global Engagement Activities (including volunteering, internships for credit, service learning, experiential learning, etc.) including those in partnership with outside organisations.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   MA required, PhD in a relevant field strongly preferred
•   Fluent in English (oral and written)
•   Minimum of 3 years experience as an academic in a higher education institution
•   Evidence of high quality teaching, administrative skills, curriculum development, leadership, and research activity appropriate to level
•   Good knowledge of academic policies and procedure and familiarity with US culture
