The Senior Education Specialist will provide leadership in implementing the literacy interventions of the project in collaboration with the Chief of Party and other project staff.

•  She/he will support the Ministry of Education (MOE), College of Education staff and other project team members in refining school literacy standards.
•  Technical assistance will include working with curriculum developers to review and revise basic education syllabi and curriculum, and developing the scope and sequence of content.
•  She/he will also continually assess progress toward project results; and modify and revise activities as needed.

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Candidates should have an advanced educational degree with special focus on areas such as reading, linguistics, English as a second language, or a related field;
•  7-10 years of experience developing or implementing reading programs, etc;
•  Knowledge of instructional theory, curriculum development, and excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills.
•  Literacy in one or more Ghanaian local language desired.

•  Ensure linkages of the program’s literacy and numeracy activities with other donor and ministry programs;
•  Participate in the design of continuous teacher professional development (CPD) modules and support module production; other technical assistance

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Candidates should have a minimum of Master’s degree in education or a related field;
•  Minimum 8 years of professional experience related to early grade reading or literacy, including five years of relevant international or field-based experience;
•  Demonstrated capacity to develop literacy programs;
•  Experience with international donors (e.g., USAID) and reporting requirements. Knowledge of Ghanaian local languages desired

The Faculty Intern (FI) will assist the lecturers to successfully deliver the syllabus with the ultimate goal of ensuring that students gain sufficient understanding of the subject matter as part of the requirements for obtaining their degrees.

Specifically the FI must:

•  Be conversant with the course syllabus for the course assigned and be able to assist students during discussions and lab. sessions
•  Assist the instructor assigned to the course in teaching
•  Ensure that course materials to be used in class are ready and distributed accordingly when required
•  Attend all classes and be adequately prepared for each teaching session, discussion and tutorial sessions
•  Monitor and take attendance of students in class and inputting same into FOCUS or any other software in use
•  Hold discussion / Lab. sessions with students as per the teaching schedule
•  Disseminate information as required to the students
•  Undertake research on topics to enhance teaching and learning by students
•  Advise students on learning techniques, strategies, etc that will enable them understand and apply the theories and concepts that are taught in the course
•  Assist the instructor in marking (excluding final exams) scripts, quizzes, tests, presentations, reports, etc and compiling them accordingly
•  Supervise and offer assistance on student assignments
•  Liaise with the instructor to address any issues of concern about the course, students behavior, etc
•  Assist in the organization of excursions / field trips / industrial  visits when required
•  Attend Faculty Intern meetings as scheduled
•  Must be proactively involved and participate in all community activities / events
•  Perform other duties appropriate as assigned by the instructor or the Dean of Academic Affairs

Academic:

Leadership:

•  Provide leadership, direction and supervision to faculty, staff and students

•  Develop, maintain and monitor fiscal resources and assist in securing external funding to support educational initiatives

•  Encourage partnerships with stakeholders in the external educational, professional and business communities
•  Liaise with other educational institutions and the local community to ensure active involvement of the university in community-wide activities

Administrative:

•  Chair meetings of the Academic Council
•  Coordinate and run monthly faculty meetings
•  Participate in mediating faculty and student issues, grievances, and appeals
•  Coordinate with student deans to support the course scheduling and faculty assignment process
•  Participate in the selection, hiring, and other personnel decisions associated with faculty and staff
•  Perform other duties as assigned by the university or that are incidental to the position

Qualification Required & Experience

Required:

•  A minimum of a doctorate degree from an accredited and internationally recognized institution
•  Minimum of ten (10) years’ teaching experience at a university. Experience as a department chair will be an advantage
•  Experience with the liberal arts method of education is required
•  Strategic planning skills to effect change in a multi-cultural environment
•  An accomplished leader who can guide faculty in research activities
•  Higher level of managerial skills and demonstrated leadership skills
•  A high level of entrepreneurial skills that translates into building of systems and initiatives including but not limited to academic activities
•  Experience in developing academic programmes
•  Knowledge of university accreditation processes
•  Proven ability to develop budgets and manage departments in a fiscally responsible and pragmatic manner
•  Knowledge and skill in communicating effectively utilizing public relations principles and practices

Preferred:

•  Knowledge of college educational philosophy, curricula and instructional programmes and top management administrative practices and procedures
•  Knowledge of technological systems as they apply to instructional and administrative functions
•  Skill in employee development and performance management
•  Strong leadership skills that promote dedication, creativity, innovation and growth
•  Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders
•  Excellent interpersonal and people skills
