Job Vacancy For Vice-Chancellor
THE GOVERNING COUNCIL of the Valley View University (VVU), announces that the position of VICE-CHANCELLOR of the university becomes vacant on January 1, 2026.
THE UNIVERSITY
VVU was established in 1979 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is currently one of a network of over 118 Adventist Colleges and Universities worldwide. In 1995, VVU was affiliated to Griggs University in Silver Springs, Maryland, USA, thus allowing it, then Valley View College to offer four-year degree programs. The then National Accreditation Board, now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) granted accreditation to the university to operate in 1995. In 2006, the Government of Ghana granted a chartered status to VVU to award its own degrees, thus making it the first chartered private university in Ghana. Today, VVU awards terminal degrees. The university has also been accredited by the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) and the International Board of Education (IBE). VVU currently provides excellent quality teaching and learning in a conducive Christian environment to students from Ghana and other African countries.
THE POSITION
• The Vice-Chancellor, being the Executive Head of the University, is responsible and accountable to the Governing Council of the University for both the Academic and Administrative functions of the Institution.
• He/she is charged with the responsibility of administering the university to achieve its mission, academic excellence, fiscal soundness, spiritual integrity, market viability and competitiveness.
• He/she is also responsible for initiating new directions in the academic development of the university and for implementing the university’s Strategic Plan.
• The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University and exercises general disciplinary functions over both members of staff and students, subject to the Statutes and Regulations of the University and the Laws of Ghana.
Qualification Required & Experience
THE PERSON
• Must hold a terminal degree and preferably at a professorial rank, who also understands and clearly demonstrates the Adventist Philosophy of Education;
• Must be a distinguished scholar with a capacity to motivate and direct both faculty and staff;
• Must be visionary, business-minded and capable of establishing rapport between industry, other universities and VVU for common interests;
• Must have a minimum of a five years full time work experience in Adventist higher education, having held at least the position of dean of a college/ faculty/ school in an Adventist institution for a minimum period of two years;
• Must have the capacity to raise funds and other resources for research and other developmental activities of the University;
• Must have a good understanding of current developments and trends in University education in Ghana and at the Global level;
• Must understand and exhibit managerial and leadership skills relevant for the successful management of an academic institution;
• Must have a very good and strong understanding of, and a proven track record in managing successfully academic institutions or any other related organisation;
• Must be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing;
• Applicants’ age must not be more than 60 years.
• He/she must be conversant with and ready to comply with the WAD Working Policy for education and GTEC’s requirements.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
• The appointment is full-time, and shall be for FIVE (5) YEARS in the first instance, and may be renewed for five (5) more years, subject to excellent performance (after evaluation of performance) and age eligibility
• Salary and Conditions of Service attached to the position are very attractive.
