Job Vacancy For Director, Nuclear Installations Directorate
The Nuclear Regulatory Authority, in line with the directives of the Governing Board, invites applications from suitably qualified staff of the general public for the position of Director, Nuclear Installations Directorate.
Responsible for providing technical and scientific research and development of support services for the work of the Authority. Ensuring that all nuclear installations within the Authority's jurisdiction are safe, secure, properly regulated and aligned with national and international nuclear safety obligations. This role ensures that nuclear installations are evaluated, designed, constructed, operated and regulated in accordance with established safety, security and safeguards requirements
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement the Directorate's annual research strategy, work plans and budget in alignment with the Authority's regulatory mandate
• Advise Management on priority regulatory research needs and translate research findings into evidence-based regulatory actions
• Lead the formulation and execution of research programmes in nuclear safety, radiation safety, nuclear security and emergency preparedness and response
• Collaborate with state security agencies, technical partners and other stakeholders to design and implement strategic regulatory research initiatives
• Coordinate the operations and development of the Nuclear Security Support Centre and related regulatory research facilities
• Oversee the establishment, accreditation and effective operation of laboratories supporting regulatory research activities
• Ensure the integration of research outputs into regulatory frameworks, inspections, licensing and enforcement processes
• Prepare and submit comprehensive annual reports on research outputs and regulatory impact
• Identify staff capacity needs and oversee continuous professional development within the Directorate
• Lead, supervise and appraise staff performance to ensure high productivity, accountability and service excellence
Qualification Required & Experience
• Minimum of PhD in Physical Sciences, relevant engineering or equivalent with emphasis on nuclear discipline
• Must have in-depth theoretical and practical training in radiation protection and safety and the regulation of nuclear facilities and materials
• Must have at least 9 years of combined relevant experience in nuclear and radiation safety
• Must be at least a Principal Research Scientist
• Must not be more than 55 years old on the first appointment
• Must have attended senior management development courses
Terms of Appointment
• The position is for a 5 year period but may be renewed for a second term
• Applicants must be able to serve a full term of 5 years
