Job Summary
To lead the design, governance, and optimization of the organization’s total reward strategy, ensuring competitive, equitable, and performance-driven compensation and benefits practices that attract, motivate, and retain talent while supporting the organisation’s financial sustainability and strategic objectives

Key tasks
Reward Strategy & Framework Design
• Develop and implement the organization’s total rewards strategy aligned with business and people priorities.
• Design and maintain compensation structures, salary frameworks, and grading systems that ensure internal equity and market competitiveness.
• Review and optimize reward policies to support performance, retention, and employee motivation.
• Ensure reward frameworks align with MTN Group reward principles and local business realities.
• Support organisational design and restructuring initiatives through grading assessments.
• Provide strategic guidance to leadership on reward-related matters.
Compensation Management
• Oversee salary review cycles, merit increases, internal movements, and market adjustments.
• Conduct regular compensation benchmarking to ensure market competitiveness.
• Manage job evaluation and grading processes to maintain pay equity and transparency.
• Provide advisory support to HR Business Partners and line managers on compensation decisions.
• Develop recommendations for salary adjustments, pay reviews and reward policies.
• Ensure effective governance and approval processes for compensation decisions.
• Ensure consistent application of compensation policies across the organization
Incentives and Variable Pay Management
•Design, implement and manage short-term and long-term incentive plans.
•Ensure alignment of incentive structures with organisational performance goals.
•Monitor incentive scheme effectiveness and cost impact.
•Provide guidance to leadership on performance-linked reward mechanisms.
Benefits Strategy & Management
• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of employee benefits programmes.
• Oversee benefits including pensions, medical insurance, risk benefits, and other employee offerings.
• Evaluate benefits utilization trends and identify opportunities for optimization and cost efficiency.
• Ensure benefits programmes remain competitive, sustainable, and aligned with workforce needs.
• Partner with external providers to deliver effective benefits solutions.
Payroll Governance & Reward Operations
• Provide governance oversight for payroll processes in collaboration with HR Operations and Finance.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including PAYE, pensions, and other deductions.
• Monitor payroll accuracy, audit readiness, and control mechanisms.
• Address complex payroll and reward-related escalations.
• Strengthen reward operational processes to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Reward Analytics & Insights
• Develop reward dashboards and analytics to inform leadership decision-making.
• Monitor reward-related metrics including pay equity, cost of rewards, and benefits utilization.
• Use workforce analytics to assess the effectiveness and ROI of reward programmes.
• Provide regular reward insights and reports to executive leadership.
• Identify trends and recommend reward interventions based on data analysis.
• Lead reward-related projects such as salary reviews, incentive rollouts and benefits redesign.
Compliance, Governance & Risk Management
• Ensure reward practices comply with labour laws, tax regulations, and internal governance frameworks.
• Maintain robust controls (i.e. policies and guidelines) for compensation and benefits administration.
• Support internal and external audits related to reward processes.
• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely policy updates.
• Promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in reward management.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory
• Partner with HR Business Partners to provide expert reward guidance to business leaders.
• Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, workforce cost planning, and financial reporting.
• Engage with MTN Group Reward teams to align local reward practices with group standards.
• Provide reward advisory services to executives and line managers.
• Support change initiatives involving reward structures or compensation adjustments
Vendor & Service Provider Management
• Manage relationships with external reward and benefits providers.
• Oversee vendor selection, contract management, and service performance.
• Monitor service levels and ensure value for money from reward service providers.
• Ensure vendors comply with contractual, regulatory, and data protection requirements.
Reward Communication & Employee Education
• Develop communication strategies to improve employee understanding of reward offerings.
• Provide education and guidance on compensation structures and benefits programmes.
• Support transparent communication of reward policies and processes.
• Partner with HR Business Partners to ensure consistent messaging across the organization.
• Provide advisory support to HR Business Partners and line managers on reward matters
Qualification Required & Experience
Education
•Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
•A postgraduate qualification or relevant certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SPHR, CIPD etc.) is a plus
•Experience Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience.
•At least 5 years specialising in compensation and benefits or reward leadership roles.
•Experience managing salary reviews, job evaluation and reward frameworks.
•Exposure to HR analytics and reward benchmarking.
•Experience managing reward frameworks within large or multinational organizations.
•Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labour laws and regulations.
•Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment, adapting to changing priorities and business needs
