Job summary
•To conduct digitally?enabled fraud investigations and digital forensic examinations that support the detection, investigation, and prevention of fraud, misconduct, and cyber?related incidents. The role ensures that all forensic activities are performed in accordance with internationally accepted forensic standards, legal requirements, and MTN’s Fraud Risk Management (FRM) framework, thereby preserving the integrity and admissibility of digital evidence.

Key Tasks
Digital Forensic Examinations
•Perform forensic acquisition, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence from computers, mobile devices, servers, cloud applications, and network logs.
•Maintain strict chain of custody and ensure all evidence is handled in a forensically sound manner (e.g., write?blocking, hashing, verified imaging).
•Utilise industry?standard forensic tools (e.g., Cellebrite, EnCase, FTK, Axiom, X?Ways) to recover deleted, encrypted, or hidden data.
•Conduct memory forensics, timeline analysis, and malware triage where required.
2. Fraud Investigations
•Lead or support investigations into complex fraud incidents, including employee misconduct, vendor fraud, revenue leakage, and cyber?fraud.
•Develop investigation plans, gather documentary and testimonial evidence, conduct interviews, and prepare comprehensive investigation reports.
•Identify root causes, control weaknesses, and systemic risks; recommend practical remediation measures.
•Maintain and analyse the Fraud Incident Register to identify trends, emerging threats, and predictive red flags.
3. Reporting & Expert Testimony
•Prepare clear, concise, and objective forensic reports suitable for management, legal proceedings, and disciplinary hearings.
•Present findings to internal stakeholders (e.g., HR, Legal, CEO, Audit Committee) and, where necessary, provide expert witness testimony in court or before regulatory bodies.
•Assist in the preparation of case files for criminal prosecution or civil recovery in collaboration with law enforcement and legal counsel.
4. Technology & Data Analytics
•Apply advanced data analytics (SQL, Python, ACL, Power BI) to detect anomalies, patterns of fraud, and suspicious transactions.
•Leverage continuous monitoring techniques to proactively identify fraud risks and control breakdowns.
•Collaborate with IT Security and Cyber Defense teams to align digital forensic capabilities with incident response processes.
5. Governance & Continuous Improvement
•Ensure all forensic activities comply with the ACFE Code of Professional Ethics, and MTN’s Fraud Risk Management Framework.
•Stay current with emerging forensic technologies, cyber threats, and legal developments through continuous professional education (CPE) and industry certifications.
•Support the enhancement of forensic policies, procedures, and tools to maintain best?in?class capability.
Qualification Required & Experience
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
•A degree in Accounting / Finance combined with demonstrable digital forensic training may be considered.
Professional Certifications (in progress or completed)
•Digital Forensics: CFCE, EnCE, CCME (Cellebrite), GCFA, CHFI, or equivalent.
•Fraud Examination: CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) is strongly preferred.
•Information Security: CISSP, CISM, or equivalent is a plus.
•Formal training in forensic interview techniques (e.g., Wicklander?Zulawski) is an advantage.
Experience:
•3 years of combined experience in digital forensics, fraud investigations, or information security within a corporate environment, law enforcement, or professional services firm (e.g., Big 4, forensic consultancy).
Professional/Technical competencies:
•Digital Forensics: Knowledge of forensic imaging, mobile device extraction, memory and cloud forensics, file carving, artefact analysis, chain of custody, and forensic reporting using tools such as Cellebrite UFED/Physical Analyzer, EnCase, FTK, and Axiom.
•Fraud Investigation & Case Management: Understanding of fraud investigation methodologies, evidence evaluation, suspect interviewing, statement taking, case management, and investigation reporting.
•Data Analytics & Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL, Python or other scripting languages, ACL, IDEA, Power BI, CAATs, and data analysis techniques for anomaly detection and investigative support.
•IT, Cybersecurity & Network Fundamentals: Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), networking protocols, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), cybersecurity principles, and the broader IT environment.
•Legal, Regulatory & Governance: Understanding of evidence admissibility, criminal procedure, data privacy and protection laws, telecom regulations, and governance/risk/control frameworks such as COSO, COBIT 5, and King III.
•Audit & Internal Controls: Knowledge of auditing standards, financial reporting principles, internal controls, audit planning, and control assessment techniques.
•Telecommunications Industry Knowledge: Understanding of telecom operations, commercial performance drivers, convergence trends, and regulatory requirements within the telecommunications sector.
•eGRC & Incident Management: Familiarity with eGRC platforms, incident management systems, and investigative workflow processes.
