Job Summary:

•Oversee the efficient and effective planning of the converged core networks for Voice, data and digital services in line with the business requirements (secured, cost effective, scalable and resilient), across 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G & Home Broadband networks, at the right quality of service and user requirements.
•This involves network dimensioning for faster time to market, network security across all technologies, signalling network design and its optimisation as well as lifecycle management of all the core network nodes.
•The core network must support the present and future subscriber base of MTN GH and map out the technology roadmap for its evolution in line with global trends and convergence.

Job Role

Strategic Network Planning & Design

•Strategically drive the design and planning of a cost-efficient core network aligned to a 5+ year horizon, considering technology evolution.
•Translate MTN GH’s business plan and subscriber growth forecasts into core network design and capacity requirements.
•Ensure future-proof core network architecture to meet current and evolving service needs.

Capacity Planning & Network Optimization

•Maintain timely capacity and functionality across all core network nodes to support Voice, Data, Home, and Digital services.
•Oversee all core network planning initiatives to ensure KPIs and QoS targets are consistently achieved.
•Develop methodologies to improve monitoring and performance tracking of the network.

Financial Management & Cost Optimization

•Develop departmental budgets aligned with the company’s business plan.
•Provide key input into CAPEX and OPEX management.
•Lead cost optimisation and efficiency initiatives to ensure optimal resource utilisation.

Network Performance Management & Reporting

•Oversee and manage core network performance.
•Provide weekly and monthly reports on network performance.
•Ensure network features and capabilities meet QoS requirements through proper planning and implementation.

Technology Lifecycle & Compliance Management

•Ensure all core network nodes are up to date with required licenses and software.
•Plan and budget for necessary upgrades to support business needs and evolving technologies.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

•Manage vendor relationships to ensure effective network deployment, performance, and resource utilisation.
•Oversee outsourced projects, including vendor selection, delivery, and performance management.
•Act as technical lead in procurement negotiations, ensuring selection of vendors based on technical capability and rollout efficiency.

Governance, Collaboration & Leadership

•Actively engage and collaborate with the Core Planning group.
•Provide leadership and oversight across all core network planning activities.

Qualification Required & Experience

Education

•Minimum of a University degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related field
•Postgraduate qualification is an added advantage
•Professional certification is a must.

Experience

•Minimum of 10 years Telecommunications experience in a similar role (core standards, protocols and applications essential).
•Leading cross-functional project teams, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.

Knowledge

•Strong knowledge of Core network planning and engineering economics.
•Ability to perform engineering studies within Signalling Networks for resource and quality Optimisation.
•Skills in presentation and technical reporting.
•Good knowledge of the radio and core network principles and architecture across 2G, 3G,4G & 5G
•Good knowledge of the core networks for delivering Voice, data and digital services within a multi-generational environment
•Good understanding of IMS, Vice over LTE, Voice over Wi-Fi, Voice over broadband and New Calling design and operational principles.
•Good knowledge of 4G, 5G and IoT network planning, dimensioning and operational principles.
•Good knowledge of home broadband core network planning and design for FWA, FTTx & Wi-Fi deployments
•Excellent knowledge of the core network signalling, SIP, SIGTRAN & Diameter protocols
•Excellent understanding of network function virtualization, Software Defined Networks and Cloud-Native Automation
•Good understanding of telecom network security requirements and regulatory compliance.
•Basic financial understanding.
