Job Summary:

Oversee the efficient management and maintenance of power infrastructure for GSM network sites, ensuring continuous power availability, optimised energy resources and reliable power systems across MTN sites.

Tasks

Power System Management

• Develop and implement strategies for the efficient management of power systems, including generators, solar systems and backup power solutions for GSM sites.
• Monitor and ensure continuous power supply to GSM network sites while optimizing energy consumption and reducing operational costs.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Lead the maintenance and repair of power equipment, ensuring minimum downtime and swift response to power outages.
• Implement preventative maintenance schedules and maintain records to track the performance and reliability of power systems.

Team Leadership & Coordination

• Manage and coordinate a team of power engineers and technicians, ensuring they are adequately trained and equipped to handle power system issues efficiently.
• Foster a culture of safety, professionalism and continuous improvement.

Budgeting & Resource Management

• Develop and manage the budget for power operations, ensuring cost efficiency in the procurement and management of energy resources including diesel, solar panels and batteries.
• Maintain accurate records of power consumption and costs and identify opportunities for savings through improved processes and technologies.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

• Track the performance of power systems and generate reports on uptime, fuel usage and operational efficiency.
• Use data analytics tools to identify trends, forecast power requirements and optimize power generation and consumption.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with vendors and service providers for the supply and maintenance of power equipment, ensuring compliance with MTN policies and standards.
• Act as a liaison between internal departments, vendors and regulatory bodies to resolve power-related issues and facilitate smooth operations.

Qualification Required & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Power Systems or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in power operations, preferably within a telecom/GSM Operations and Maintenance environment.
• At least 3 years of the required experience should be in a supervisory role.
• Ability to conduct analysis using Microsoft Excel.

Professional/Technical Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of electrical infrastructure and AC/DC power systems.
• In-depth knowledge of generator installation, operations and maintenance.
• In-depth knowledge of UPS, rectifier, solar, inverter, ATS and relay systems.
• In-depth knowledge of cooling systems and energy-efficiency technologies.
• Knowledge of business continuity management, forecasting, records management and power-performance analytics.
