The Millennium Villages Project, supported by Millennium Promise Alliance and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, is a bottom-up approach to lift developing country villages out of the poverty trap that afflicts more than a billion people worldwide. The Millennium Villages’ team of experts in Agriculture, Nutrition and Health, Economics, Energy, Water, Agribusiness, Environment and Information Technology are working with local communities and governments to apply a proven holistic package of interventions to help villages get out of extreme poverty and meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
With support from Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and funding from the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom, a SADA Millennium Village was established in parts of the West Mamprusi and Builsa Districts of the Northern and Upper East Regions of Ghana. The project area covers a cluster of contiguous rural communities with an estimated population of 25,000 people.

JOB SUMMARY
Purpose of the Position
The goal of the position is to coordinate the Community Health Worker (CHW) sub-system of the MVP health system.
The Community Health Worker Coordinator will report directly to the Health Coordinator. The CHW coordinator will work closely with other health sector facilitators (eHealth, Nutrition, WASH, RMNCH, Supply Chain), as well as staff at the health facilities and with the CHWs. Additionally, the CHW coordinator will ensure synergies with other sectors and cross-cutting areas such as Gender, Community Development, Monitoirng & Evaluation, Education and Agribusiness.
Responsibilities/Duties
Training
•  Facilitate the roll-out of targeted refresher trainings for CHWs and CHW supervisors
•  Develop individualized coaching plan for CHWs - determine learning objectives and coordinate training on specific topics, as necessary
•  Ensure adequate training for CHWs (undertake routine training needs assessments of CHWs and conduct refresher trainings) in line with annual workplans and budgets
Supervision
•  Ensure CHWs meet monthly household and case visitation targets
•  Routinely monitor and strengthen the quality of service provision by CHWs
•  Liaise with Clinic Staff to identify vulnerable households to followed up by CHWs
•  Monitor Community Health Nurses (CHNs) supervising CHWs
•  Conduct data quality audits to validate vital events reports
•  Regularly appraise work of CHWs
Planning & Coordination
•  Oversee program activities to ensure quality and timely service delivery
•  Develop & execute quarterly (or bi-annual) workplans
•  Ensure effective implementation of CommCare and the VA program
•  Ensure that CHWs have necessary equipment and commodities for household visits
•  Strengthen referrals and linkages between CHWs and facility based services
Management
•  Regularly conduct personnel performance evaluations
•  Maintain adequate numbers of qualified CHWs and CHW supervisors
Reporting
•  Routinely compile and analyze data collected by CHWs
•  Regularly report to Health Coordinator on activities of, and data collected by CHWs
•  Support Health Coordinator in reporting on CHW activities to MDG Center and New York teams
Qualification Required & Experience
•  Minimum of First Degree in Public Health or related discipline
•  At least two years work experience in community health
•  Communication and interpersonal relations
•  Decision making and problem solving skills
•  Planning and organization
•  Community mobilization and sensitization
•  Training/skills transfer
•  Recording and reporting
•  Communication in both English and in the local dialect
•  Monitoring skills
•  Supervisory skills
•  Ability to use Microsoft Office
•  Basic data analysis
