Job Vacancy For Chair



The Ghana National. Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the University of Ghana (UG) have established a Research Chair in Petroleum Geoscience at the Department of Earth Science, College of Basic and Applied Sciences, UG. The Chair has been established to strengthen Petroleum Geoscience research and education capacity at UG in order to support the optimal exploration, delineation and development of Ghana's hydrocarbon resources. One major objective of the Chair would be to facilitate the sustainable development of Ghana's hydrocarbon deposits, while providing a reference point for developing Similar technical capacity in Africa.

The Position

The occupant of the Chair shall:

• Establish technical partnerships with leading universities and industry leaders within and beyond the African continent.
• Establish teaching and learning exchange programmes with partner universities and institutions.
• Raise funds to establish state-of-the-art research laboratory in Petroleum Geoscience at the Department of Earth Science.
• Coordinate the graduate level Petroleum Geoscience programme at the Department of Earth Science.
• Engage industry in the training of the next generation of Petroleum Geoscience professionals.
• Seek further funding from industry to support faculty development and refresher training of faculty members.
• Organise or facilitate the organisation of conferences and workshops to discuss contemporary research and technological development in Petroleum Geoscience

Qualification Required & Experience

The Person

• Must have a PhD degree in any of the fields of Geoscience.
• Must be a distinguished Professor or a person qualified to be appointed a Professor.
• Must demonstrate capacity to manage the unit under the direction of the Provost, College of Basic and Applied Sciences.
• Must possess substantial managerial and administrative leadership.
• Must provide evidence of resource mobilisation and demonstrate proven ability to attract funding to support Research and Development (R & D) activities within the College
• Must possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills to attract industry collaboration.
• Must demonstrate considerable knowledge and experience in the upstream petroleum industry.

Tenure: The tenure of the Chair shall be for a term of two (2) academic years and may be renewed for an additional term only based on an evaluation of the performance of the Chair.
