The International Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for highly motivated and experienced individuals to join its West Africa office in Accra, Ghana to support the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) programme.

Job Title: Coordinator - TAAT Water Enabler Compact

Description

Lead the coordination of water management technologies that IWMI and its partners will implement in support and as part of the Commodity Technology Delivery Compact (CTDC) of the rice, wheat, sorghum/millet, maize and orange-fleshed sweet potato value chains. The person will also be involved in the development and submission of all necessary documents to the Clearing House to obtain approval for these technologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as IWMI’s focal point in all interactions with the CTDCs, the Clearing House and Project Steering Committee (PSC).
• Prepare, in close consultation with the coordinator of each value chain (VC) in which IWMI is involved, a list of appropriate water management and irrigation technologies and the resources required to deploy them in the field.
• Provide support to the planning and implementation of approved water management and irrigation technologies for each value chain in target countries.
• Facilitate on-farm demonstration and scaling out of approved water management and irrigation technologies.
• In close consultation and collaboration with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) ensure that capacity of Innovation Platform (IP) facilitators, farmers and extension agents are strengthened.
• Support the development of young agripreneurs through demonstration and training in the proper use and application of water management and irrigation technologies in close collaboration with the ENABLE-TAAT Compact.
• In close consultation and collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), ensure that all policy-related issues that can affect the uptake and scaling out of water management and irrigation technologies within target countries are effectively addressed.
• Ensure that quarterly and annual consolidated technical and financial reports for the compact are prepared and submitted to the program management office on time.
• Present the activities, results, impacts and outcomes of work undertaken on water management and irrigation technologies in the CTDCs at professional, donor and other stakeholder meetings.

Qualification Required & Experience

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLDEGE:

• A PhD degree in agricultural water management, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, agricultural extension, agronomy/soil science or a related field.
• At least 10 years of professional work experience in water management and/or agriculture-related issues in developing countries, five of which should be in Africa.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with a good working knowledge of French.
• Demonstrated experience in project management.
• Demonstrated ability to write, publish and disseminate technical reports, success stories and promotional materials.
• Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional and multi-cultural environment.
