Job Vacancy For Database Administrator At Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection



The Database Administrative Officer is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the National Targeting System database. He/She will also have additional role requirements in the incorporation of the following principles to the NTS database: a) data remains consistent across the database; b) data is clearly defined; c) users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs; d) there is provision for data security and recovery control (all data should be retrievable in an emergency).

Key Responsibilities

•   Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security;
•   Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;
•   Mapping out the conceptual, design for a planned database in outline;
•   Considering both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users;
•   Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model;
•   Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements; => Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS;
•   Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
•   Controlling access permissions and privileges;
•   Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;
•   Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
•   Capacity planning;
•   Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
•   Commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   BE or BSc Degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Information Technology or related field,
•   5 years IT operation experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices,
•   3-5 years Microsoft SQL Server experience.
•   Understanding of, and experience with, server-client computing and relational database environments.
•   Experience with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques.
•   Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices.
•   Good understanding of the organizations goals and objectives.
•   Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
•   Technical documentation skills.
•   Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
•   Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
•   Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
•   Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
•   Good written and oral communication skills.

Reporting Responsibility

•   In the discharge of his duties, the Database Officer will report the MIS Specialist. He/she will prepare and submit quarterly reports to MIS specialist.

Duration of Assignment
The Contract will last for one (1) year initially, but renewable for a second year
