Programme Overview:
The Empowerment for Life (E4L) programme is a Danida sponsored programme being implemented in the Northern Region by Ghana Development Communities Association (GDCA) and Youth Empowerment for Life (YEFL) in cooperation with their Danish partner Ghana Friendship Groups (GV) in Denmark. The programme objectives focus on building capacities of community groups to organise, strategize and carry out advocacy through community driven social change approach as well as supporting the local partner organizations to be strong. The programme is based in the Northern Region of Ghana and will operate in six Districts, The programme requires a self motivated and dynamic Ghanaian to be employed as a FUNDRAISING OFFICER (FO) to be in place by 1st January 2015.

The Fundraising Officer will be responsible for coordinating fundraising initiatives m collaboration with managers and staff in partner organisations and GV. He/she will support partner organisations in developing fundraising capacity and strategy, scanning environment for fundraising opportunities, and supporting in implementing fundraising strategies. The fundraising officer will thus mainly work with the partner organisations while still being part of the programme team and reporting to the Programme Manager. He/she must ensure to stay well informed of programme activities and achievements in the field for inspiration and case stories m support of fundraising activities. An important part of the fundraising will be applying for donor funding for human rights based development initiatives in co-financing arrangements,

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

1.  Planning, preparation and implementation of fundraising initiatives.

•   Produce detailed annual action plans on specific areas of responsibility outlined above, identifying areas of growth and development and outlining measurable objectives,
•   Represent the work of E4L at relevant fundraising events to members of the public and delivering presentations to donors/sponsors on fundraising program.
•   Contribute to the maintenance of positive and appropriate public image for E4L and its partners by being aware of and complying with the relevant Code of Ethics regarding fundraising policies and procedure
•   Objectively review the success and achievements against agreed targets, identifying strengths, weaknesses and areas for development
•   Ensure that funding criteria are adhered to and produce evaluation reports,

2. Support partner organizations in the development and implementation of fundraising and communications strategies.

•   Support partner organizations in developing, reviewing and updating their fundraising strategies
•   Contribute new ideas for fundraising and identify suitable funding initiatives; (EU; foundation: global. bilateral, multilateral, government, intergovernmental and pooled funds, etc).
•   Coordinate and develop funding initiatives - including in collaboration/alliance with other NGOs.
•   Ensure the website of fundraising and communications information is up to date.
•   Stay abreast of program information amongst all partners, including program plans and evaluations so as to facilitate effective fundraising initiatives.
•   Produce compelling fundraising materials to support sponsorship drives, etc.

3. Develop sustainable relationships with donors/sponsors, etc; EU foundations, global, bilateral, multilateral, government, intergovernmental and pooled funds,

•   Cultivate and service current and possible donors,
•   Research to identify funding opportunities from trusts and foundations as well prospective donors/sponsors who are willing to support E4L programs.
•   Continue and develop relationship with existing donors/sponsors.
•   Develop a relationship with the media (in collaboration with other programme team members) to regularly project the programme and the partner organisations.

4. Take the lead in building capacity of partners in the area of fundraising.

•   Providing internal training and support to staff and partners on institutional fundraising by giving advice and information on proposal and report preparation.
•   Maintain organized hard and soft files on ail fundraising information and support partners to do same.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A University degree, preferably at the Masters level in Social Sciences, Economics, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, Management or other relevant qualification.
•   The applicant must have at least three years record of delivering results in fundraising, preferably in an NGO environment, and preferably raising funds from a variety of sources such as international donors, public institutions, private sector and individuals for social development work.

Experience and skills in:

•   Developing and implementing fundraising strategies and activities
•   Building capacities of, and supporting other staff members and/or partners in fundraising
•   Developing concept notes and proposal writing
•   Building and managing relations with donors and sponsors
•   Building and sustaining relations with the media
•   Excellent communication skills: written and inter-personal relations
•   Good Presentation skills
•   Good Negotiation skills
•   High proficiency in ICT skills, including MS Office Suite, Web-based and social media
