Job Summary

World Education/Ghana is seeking an Early Grade Reading & Teacher Training Coordinator in Ghana for a pilot early grade innovation intervention. The pilot will utilize an innovative approach to equip early grade teachers with practical examples and the in-classroom support and monitoring they need to improve student reading and comprehension in local language instruction. The position is based in Accra with frequent local travel and is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

•   Provide leadership in developing and coordinating the technical aspects (training, materials development and monitoring) of early grade literacy and teacher training in collaboration with the Project Director.
•   Develop and refine early grade literacy and teacher training content.
•   Develop materials and lead training for early grade literacy coaching program.
•   Develop and facilitate training for teachers and coaches in best practices in early grade bilingual literacy.
•   Develop effective tools to monitor teacher behavior and instructional improvements in the classroom.
•   Any other duties as assigned.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Advanced degree in education or related field.
•   Minimum of 5 years proven experience implementing early grade literacy instruction and teacher training.
•   Proven understanding of international best practices in early grade literacy instruction.
•   Experience in curriculum development and teacher training a must.
•   Experience in implementing reading assessments is a plus.
•   Demonstrated ability to work with host government and other relevant partners in central and/or local government settings.
•   In-depth knowledge of Ghana’s education system, especially in-service teacher training and professional development, pedagogical practices, and NALAP.
•   Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
•   Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
