Job Vacancy For Epidemiologist (NMCP) At Ghana Health Service



Job Purpose:
To provide technical support in strengthening surveillance systems at all levels, contribute to improved monitoring and evaluation, generation and analysis of data from all sources.

Main Duties:
The incumbent works closely with and provide technical guidance to the NMCP's Data, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit. As part of the NMCP's team, the Epidemiologist will provide technical oversight and support for the strengthening and use of malaria health information systems for improved surveillance, including the following tasks;

Key Responsibilities:

•   Provide support to the NMCP to improve and strengthen the overall malaria information system in Ghana
•   Support development and testing of innovative systems to detect and respond to drug resistant malaria cases at health facility and community levels in the context of strengthening overall malaria surveillance systems
•   Assist in the design and implementation of operational research activities to test new strategies and systems for surveillance
•   Support capacity building at central and peripheral levels through training and systems support in surveillance, epidemiology and monitoring and evaluation
•   Coordinate the development of action plans for improved malaria control evaluation; provide support for the harmonization of data from all sources and integrate them through a central malaria database
•   Develop standardized approaches for producing and updating malaria risk stratification and mapping based on incidence and other relevant data
•   Provide expertise in the design, management and evaluation of study protocols and health status questionnaires, sample selection including generation of randomization lists and analysis
•   Design and program logical edit checks to identify routine and survey data errors and develop and implement systems to insure data quality
•   Perform statistical analysis of studies in collaboration with the M&E and research teams
•   Participate in manuscript preparation and presentationsAssist as  needed with grant preparation  and assessment of feasibility of strategies Occasionally lead trainings on use of electronic data capture system and data management procedures for NMCP staff
•   Lead the documentation and dissemination of results through technical reports, presentations and publications.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A postgraduate degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics or other related fields
•   Minimum of 15 years relevant experience,

Essential Skills:

•   Extensive experience with assessing, setting up, and  monitoring  infectious disease  surveillance systems, especially for malaria
•   Experience in the design and implementation of surveys
•   Strong skills in using statistical packages such as Epi-info, STATA and SPSS
•   Strong analytical skills in monitoring and evaluation of programmes and projects
•   Fluency in English
