Job Vacancy For Executive Secretary for a Civil Society



We are a leading non-profit making National Coalition with a focus on transparency and accountability currently seeking an Executive Secretary to lead our Secretariat based in Accra, Ghana.

The position demands an individual with an understanding and knowledge on anti-corruption issues, coalition building, research and policy advocacy, partnership development and fundraising, to promote transparency and accountability issues at the national, regional and global level.

Role of the Executive Secretary

•   The individual will implement an ambitious strategy encompassing national and international policy goals, ambitious fundraising targets and the development of program areas focusing on governance and anti-corruption.
•   S/he will work with civil society organizations, private sector, media, government, bilateral and multilateral institutions, international development agencies and organizations to further the understanding of the value of minimizing corruption as key to sustainable development.
•   The individual will drive the strategic, programmatic and financial operations of the Coalition, providing oversight function to the work of a team of staff.  She/he will work in close collaboration with members of the Coalition and other key anti-corruption stakeholders in the public, private and NGO sectors.
•   She/he will provide strategic guidance to the team in the development and implementation of strategies to achieve the Coalition’s goals and will serve as the organization’s lead at the highest levels for these efforts with partners and donors, and with the Governing Council.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Advanced degree (Masters) in Law or the Social Sciences, international or development policy;
•   A minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in management/leadership-level positions (or equivalent combination of education and experience);
•   At least 8 years’ relevant hands-on experience in developing and implementing programs and systems to enhance research and advocacy, capacity building, and policy input;
•   The ideal candidate should have a strong background on transparency and anti-corruption issues;
•   She/He should have a working understanding of international policy and funding processes, or natural resource management strategies;
•   Experience in management and implementation of development and/or conservation projects in developing countries
•   Proven experience engaging with and influencing governments, policy institutions and other key constituents globally to embrace an agenda including natural capital and its links to human well-being;
•   Strong executive-level financial management experience including demonstrated experience of successfully managing and leading teams and fundraising;
•   Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet/Email.

Essential Skills and Abilities

•   Ability to conceptualize, develop and implement programs designed to influence and persuade;
•   Proven knowledge of the national and global development agenda and the role of anticorruption in that agenda;
•   Proven ability to utilize strong analytical, critical decision-making and strategic planning skills;
•   Previous successful fund-raising experience and working knowledge of non-profit organizations will be an advantage;
•   Demonstrated strong network with local and national civil society organizations, bilateral and multilateral institutions, including regional and sub-regional groups;
•   Clear, concise verbal and written communications skills, including effective presentation and negotiation skills;
•   Ability to conceptualize and implement innovative strategies, partnerships, and programs;
•   Ability to analyze and recommend improvements to processes, procedures and systems;
•   Proven ability to lead, engage, and collaborate with individuals across various disciplines, cultures and backgrounds to achieve shared goals;
•   Passion for transparency and accountability;
•   Strong interpersonal skills, presence and ability to effectively build strong relationships both internally and external to the organization;
•   A reputation for high ethical standards and integrity.
•   Demonstrable track record of successful project completion within stipulated time frames;
•   Demonstrable leadership and management capabilities;
