Job Vacancy For Applications Officer (UNIX/LINUS system Administrator)



A reputable multinational company engaged in the provision of trade solutions and advisory services to both public and private sectors have vacancy for dynamic individuals to join its winning team as a: Applications Officer (UNIX/LINUS system Administrator)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain UNIX/LINUX Operating system to provide optimum performance and system availability
• Install host computer operating systems, disk arrays, fiber channel switches, tape libraries and other components
• Create and maintain environment for running batch jobs associated with daily batch cycle and batch reporting systems
• Configure application and web servers
• Support the organisation's enterprise application IT infrastructure
• Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems
• Install, configure and maintain hardware and software IT infrastructure
• Develop procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorised use, acts of nature and user abuse
• Perform backup and restoration of hosting operating systems and host-based applications
• Develop custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability
• Perform day-to-day operations of host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair
• Ensure that records of system availability and equipment inventory are properly maintained
• Apply revisions to host system firmware and software
• Conduct quality assurance on project deliverables. Test, evaluate, develop and implement new computer applications and systems
• Backup and replication to disaster recover of necessary file system structure periodically for enterprise systems
• Manage datacenter facilities infrastructure and support relevant upgrade projects
• Provide continuous improvement feedback on implemented business systems
• Troubleshoot dysfunctional systems and services
• Assist implement changes to existing software as and when required
• Liaise with external service providers and stakeholders
• Respond to user reported issues in a timely manner
• Prepare support documentation on middleware activities
• Participate in a 24x7 on duty rotation
• Attend meetings, seminars and trainings

Qualification Required & Experience

• Minimum of First Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related qualification
• Minimum of 2 years experience in solaris, Linux, UNIX, SQL, RAID, etc
• Experience in managing UNIX and Microsoft windows environments
• Experience in change management in heterogeneous IT environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meed deadline
