OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
• Enable effective bookkeeping of all explosive’s transactions in a magazine in accordance with mining regulations.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Conduct critical controls review for explosives-related activities.
• Participate in supervisor workplace visits and inspections.
• Carry out positive observations, hazard observations and reporting, and planned task observations.
• Assess risks for all tasks and ensure controls are in place before and during task execution.
• Report all incidents and ensure investigations are completed and corrective actions closed out on time.
• Act on all corrective actions assigned and ensure timely completion.
• Achieve 100% compliance to set OHS KPIs and ensure direct reports also comply.
• Maintain zero incidents and zero injuries related to activities under your involvement or jurisdiction.
• Comply with AGAG environmental management requirements, legal requirements, and other compliance obligations.
• Take action to prevent environmental pollution.
• Follow operating procedures and environmental rules for the performance of assigned work.
• Correct or report any observed environmental deviations, practices and conditions to the Supervisor and suggest improvements to environmental management.
• Follow established procedures and report incidents to the Supervisor when they occur.
• Communicate with team members on the effective handling and usage of explosives to prevent explosive damage and explosives accidents.
• Support reduction of explosives wastage through effective handling and usage practices.
• Maintain explosives reporting requirements.
• Ensure explosives stocks in the magazine comply with regulations and report any contravention immediately.
• Keep records of all relevant explosives’ transactions in the Explosive Logbook.
• Prevent unlawful entry into the magazine.
Qualification Required & Experience
• SSCE.
• Certificate of competency in Blasting.
Experience
• 3 years' experience in underground operations.
Knowledge & Skills
• Ability to assess risks for tasks and ensure controls are applied before and during execution.
• Knowledge of explosives handling, usage, stock control and transaction recording in a magazine.
• Ability to maintain accurate explosives records in the Explosive Logbook.
• Ability to identify, report and act on hazards, incidents and corrective actions.
• Knowledge of operating procedures, environmental rules and mining regulations relevant to explosives management.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members on safe and effective explosives handling.
