Job Vacancy For Career Development Officer At AIMS Ghana



AIMS-Ghana is seeking a sensitive, dynamic and results-oriented people-person to play an important role in supporting the development and co-ordination of integrated career development services at AIMS including job placement, career counselling, facilitation of professional skill workshops and developing exciting learning opportunities for approximately 50 bright graduate students per year.

This new position was developed to build on AIMS success in providing students with opportunities upon graduation such as internships and job placements. The role offers the potential to make a valuable contribution to the career success of young graduates from across Africa, and to be part of an international effort to promote African mathematical talent, innovation and enterprises.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Student Support and Trackling:

•  Develop and maintain a supportive relationship with students while tracking their goals, interests and career progress
•  Collect and disseminate information on relevant activities, conferences and events for mathematical students and encourage students participation in these
•  Develop new opportunities and acquire and maintain a list of academic and job opportunities for mathematical science students
•  Support the research and development of physical and online career resources

2. Workshops:

•  Provide support for Employability week(s) workshop (research and contact speakers, develop and co-ordinate schedule, maintain records, work with AIMS staff)
•  Deliver workshops on employment topics and personal development activities

3. Mentorship:

•  Develop a pool of alumni mentors and/or coaches at place of employment and link students with mentors and coaches to provide support during job placement and monitor this linkage for success in the workplace

4. Work Opportunity Placement Services:

•  Build relationships with employers, identifying their required skills and competencies, in order to identify and create opportunities for students
•  Ensure students acquire skills related to employer needs
•  Assist students with contract negotiation

5. Other:

•  Assisting with public displays or presentations highlighting and marketing AIMS, or promoting strategic relationships
•  Attending and participating in staff meetings and other duties as they arise

Qualification Required & Experience

Experience
Mandatory:

•  Experience working in the industrial sector;
•  Experience in two or more of: Job development, marketing, direct contact sales, counselling, placement, and/or recruitment;
•  Related experience which demonstrates an understanding of the barriers and issues experienced by job seekers; and,

Preferred:

•  Knowledge, experience or interest in integrated learning and adult education;
•  Knowledge of community services, labour market, occupational requirements and job search resources;
•  Exposure to Mathematics or other science

Skill Requirements:

•  Min. Master's + 2 years working experience in business, pyschology, career guidance or other related field;
•  Fluent in English. French highly desirable but not essential;
•  Ability to identify gaps, propose solutions and implement these;
•  Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills;
•  Demonstrated ability with MS Office software, e-mail and the internet;
•  Able to work independently and communicate to team members;
•  A collaborative style, multi-cultural and multi-faith sensitivity, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
