The successful candidate will report directly to the Company's Chief Operations Officer

Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for the implementation of the company's Claims Philosophy and follow the Corporate Claims strategy
• Lead by example and promote the claims strategy, feeding into and complementing the corporate culture
• Investigate, evaluate and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases and to contribute to a reduced loss ration
• Monitor and control the internal cost of running the claims unit
• Monitor the cost of claims and the speed of payments and recoveries
• Accountable for all claims-related services including identification of valid/invalid claims, the payment of valid claims in a timely manner and to laise with Head of Reinsurance to ensure all recoveries are made promptly
• Ensure that insurance claims related issues have been settled and claims have been paid out to relevant parties
• Track and assess impact of large losses including making recommendations to modify underwriting guidelines/profile as needed
• Follow up with any and all issues related to insurance claims and direct such issues to relevant parties when necessary, to have them resolved
• Maintain insurance claim files in an organised manner and ensure their safe custody
• Adjust reserve activities are consistent with corporate policies
• Examine claims investigated by insurance adjusters, further investigating questionable claims to determine whether to authorise payments
• Provide daily, weekly and monthly reporting such as Paid and outstanding claims borderaux and salvage management
• Additional related duties may be assigned, as required

Qualification Required & Experience

• ACII qualified, technically sound in underwriting and a proven and demonstrable wealth of experience in claims settlement. A legal background is an added advantage
• Mature, aged 40 years plus and able to lead and train an enthusiastic team
• Must possess at least 10 years experience in similar role
• Personable, presentable and confident to hold face-to-face meetings with lawyers and claimants that ensures that claims settlements are handled to the policy holder's satisfaction
• Computer literate, numerate, analytical skills and an eye for detail and the ability to handle a varied workload where the priorities are constantly changing
