Job summary

Purpose;
The selected individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of all social mobilization and communication materials, strategy and training, including support to partners for this initiative.

The successful candidate will work with individuals, communities, and societies to develop communication strategies that use specific, targeted malaria prevention and treatment messages deploying a variety of approaches to enable people to initiate and sustain healthy behaviors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Behavior Change Communication and Social Mobilization
•  Conduct needs assessments, including formative research to determine communication needs and drive the strategy.
•  Training of health and community workers, religious leaders, and journalists in behavior change and social mobilization and interpersonal communication.
•  Implement activities at various locations, including clinics, homes, religious institutions, schools, and at community events.
•  Lead the development and production of information-education-communication (ICE) materials, such as a malaria education video and radio spots to strengthen behavioral change communication (BCC) strategies.
•  Design and develop training materials (e.g. illustrated flipcharts and murals) on malaria prevention and treatment.
•  Lead the development and production of promotional materials (e.g. leaflets, banners, t-shirts) that will be used during community-level advocacy events.
•  Ensure the appropriateness and monitor the use of BCC materials through consultation with community educators, pre-testing in target villages, and regular visits to the field.
•  Contribute to the development of advocacy materials, including Power Point presentations, fact sheets, newsletters, related to malaria and other health issues faced by communities.
•  Prepare budget estimates for the development and production of BCC materials.
•  Manage the storage and easy retrieval of BCC and advocacy materials for later use of project staff and partners.

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Minimum of a Master’s degree in Mass Communication or in a relevant discipline, such as health promotion or social marketing.
•  At least five years’ experience in leading, managing and monitoring different aspects of malaria prevention and control programs, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa.
•  Strong leadership, presentation and negotiation skills are required.
•  Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams to meet common goals.
•  Demonstrated capacity to integrate state-of-the-art technology and tools in support of programs.
•  Demonstrable training and capacity building skills.
•  Demonstrable inter-personal and representation skills.
•  Ability to use appropriate tools and technologies (Photoshop, Publisher, etc.) required.
•  Ghanaian National.

This is a proposal position and is contingent on the awarding of funding by the donor.
