Global Communities is seeking a Communications Officer for USAID-funded Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) program. The aim of the program is to improve the livelihoods and nutritional status of vulnerable households in targeted communities in the Northern Region of Ghana. Project activities will focus on increasing consumption of diverse quality foods, especially among women and children; improving behaviors related to nutrition and hygiene of women and young children; strengthening the capacity of local support networks (with a particular focus on Regional Coordinating Councils (RCC) and District Assembly (DA) staff and systems) to address the needs of vulnerable households.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Officer provides technical support for the program staff on the RING project by carrying out the following duties:

•   Coordinate all communications and media output of the project
•   Manage all external reporting and communications needs for key stakeholders and other high level visits to the program;
•   Supervise the work of assigned work group/team;
•   Act as first point of contact for PR and Media particularly in emergency situations;
•   Conduct regular visits to field offices and project sites as required, to evaluate communication priorities, provide support to regional officers, follow-up on current issues and assess the quality of reporting based on program realities.
•   Coordinate and distribute the RING events calendar, manage the production of the RING program website and submit regular updates for the RING international webpage on that region;
•   Take charge of the program branding and public relations strategies, success stories, pictures and videos.
•   Be responsible for the creation and implementation of the program’s media outreach strategy and will work closely with the Country press to ensure accurate coverage of programmatic activities.

GENERAL COMPETENCIES/REQUIREMENTS

•   Proficiency in English (written and verbal) and effective communication and interpersonal skills

•   Excellent business and journalistic writing skills;
•   Excellent graphic design and proofreading skills;

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Social Sciences, English, Journalism, Information Management or equivalent;
•   5 years’ experience in international media relations including managing or supervising staff as well as communicating information with a wide range of different audiences;
•   Ability to develop and present information and communication products for a wide range of different audiences; Ability to review and edit reports and other written documentation for dissemination and publication;
•   Familiar with international development, humanitarian relief, and international trade issues; Ability to collect information and undertake research under potentially difficult and constraining conditions; Ability to differentiate between information for internal versus external audiences;
•   Proven ability to manage publications from conceptualization to completion;
•   Fluent in English written and spoken.
•   Experience working on a USAID funded projects preferred
•   Ability to speak two Ghanaian languages (preferably Northern region dialects) is a plus
