Duration: 11 Months (renewable)

JOB PURPOSE:

• WFP in Ghana has been supporting national development through four thematic pillars: Nutrition, Food Systems, Social Protection and Emergency Preparedness and response.
• Efforts have been hinged largely on private sector participation in the supply of nutritious foods for prevention of malnutrition, transformation of agricultural value chains and strengthening of social protection programmes.
• To fully meet its objectives in Ghana, WFP is increasing its ‘enabler’ role by providing capacity strengthening for national institutions and supporting advocacy to improve food security and nutrition outcomes. The Country Office is also leveraging strategic partnerships with the private sector to create and meet demand for healthy diets. As part of the current Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2024-2028) an innovative Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) will be rolled out to improve uptake of positive behaviour and practices across all sectors, with emphasis on actions that foster enhancements in the nutrition, food, social protection and emergency preparedness and response systems.
• The purpose of this position is to lead the development of the multi-sectoral SBC strategy and oversee its implementation across all WFP Ghana intervention areas.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Nutrition Unit and overall supervision by the Deputy Country Director/Head of Programmes, the SBC Specialist will be responsible for the following duties.

• 1. Strategic and Technical Support: Provide strategic and technical directions to change behaviours with regards to nutritious food choices including fortified foods, transformed food systems that support healthy diets, social protection system strengthening, actions that support emergency preparedness and response (EPR) and social cohesion. Position holder will also coordinate SBC design and implementation for specific projects on rice fortification, school meals and support relevant government ministries and agencies in developing and implementing innovative Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation strategies, building on proven Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation approaches and activities, including marketing.
• Evidence generation: Advise on the development and implementation of formative assessments and innovative approaches to increase learning around Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation with national institutions and private sector actors.
Capacity Strengthening: Collaborate with government ministries and agencies, partners, private sector and Country Office teams to plan, develop, and produce tools and communication vehicles to enhance capacities, policies and systems leading to improved nutritious food choices and behaviour change across the food, social protection, emergency preparedness and response systems. • Coordinate capacity strengthening of partners in the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of innovative Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation approaches. Strengthen the capacity of WFP’s team members in advocacy for nutrition.
• Partnership development: Support the establishment of effective strategic and operational partnerships for strengthening Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation activities and systems and engage all stakeholders at national and sub-national levels.
• Any other tasks as identified by the supervisor.

Deliverables at the end of the contract

1. Integrated SBC strategy developed and rolled out
2. Capacity of relevant CO and government staff strengthened in SBC design, implementation and monitoring
3. Key partnerships developed for effective SBC implementation

Qualification Required & Experience

Minimum Academic Qualifications Guide -

• Master’s degree in communications, Marketing, Social or Behavioural Sciences, Human Nutrition, Public Health, or Related Fields as advertised.

Desired Experiences for entry into the role:

• In-depth technical knowledge in Social and Behaviour Change Strategies.
• A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in/managing social and behavioural change interventions related to health and nutrition.
• Strong knowledge of multisectoral nutrition programmes, strategies, and policies.
• Experience in designing and conducting formative research related to social and behavioural changes, ideally on all aspects related to complementary feeding and food choices, nutrition of the adolescents and impact of good nutrition on school children.
• Strong knowledge of multisectoral nutrition programmes, strategies, and policies.
• Experience in marketing strategy design and implementation.
• In-depth experience in community mobilization and program management or other related fields as advertised.
• Experience with UN, including at Country Office-level, is an asset.

Language: Fluent in both oral and written communication in English and any other common local Ghanaian language is an added advantage.
