The AGA Africa Business Unit is seeking experienced and self-motivated persons to join our team.
The Opportunity
• The role holder reports to the Cost Controller and is accountable for estimating the cost of projects, analysing the requirements and specification of the project, and determining the cost involved in the project.
• The role provides the cost information and data to Project Managers, allowing accurate financial assessment of project deliverables.
• The Cost Controller coordinates the communication of cost estimates and achievement between project stakeholders, engineers, and project managers to effectively and efficiently deliver through the SAP system in line with the strategic objectives of the business.
Accountabilities
• Understand all contract documents, agreements, procedures, instructions, and other requirements relevant to project costing and financial management considerations.
• Establish, maintain, and manage the project budget, actual and committed costs, invoicing, forecasts and cost estimates, cash flow, and FOREX management daily.
• Develop and maintain the Project Controls Management Plan concerning the project cost control section
• Review and recommend approval for payment for contractor progress claims and invoicing relative to the respective contract.
• Develop and implement processes for the monitoring and reporting of potential disputes related to contract costings between the contractor and AngloGold Ashanti.
• Within the agreed frameworks, develop the processes to record and monitor the costs associated with the Africa Business Unit Project (tracking of manhours, rates, verifying invoices, etc.)
• Identify and utilize appropriate information from the Contractors’ project systems to ensure the appropriate monitoring of Project costs in line with agreed contract terms and conditions
• Conduct reviews, observations and other monitoring techniques to monitor, track and validate project costs.
• Generate and report regular project financial data such as spend profiles, budgeted and earned values, forecasts, completion costs etc.
• Tracked daily, with variances identified and escalated, and reported on monthly.
• Provide expenditure forecasts identifying variances against budget
• Analyze all Project cost data to proactively identify potential issues and where required develop and propose alternative solutions to bring the Project back within budget
• Monitor project activities and progress against plan to identify change events that may impact upon costs.
• Monitor and report on KPI’s, progress, variances and corrective actions with respect to budgets, commitments, accruals, actual expenditure, invoices paid, forecast and explanation of variances.
• Prepare, organize and actively participate in formal monthly cost meeting.
• Manage financial records and audit interface.
• Support the SOX process
• Facilitate data capture so meaningful information can be reported in an accurate and timely manner.
• Ensure alignment between AngloGold Ashanti and the EPCM Contractors systems, so formal transference of information between parties can occur as seamlessly as possible, specifically Cost Track and SAP
• Ensure the procurement of both goods and services to ensure compliance with company costing and financial policies and procedures, confirmation that standard documentation facilitates including the procure to pay process and any goods and services align with project budget requirements.
• Coordinate the project weekly, monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reporting providing cost flow forecast, cash flow forecast and cost value reporting

Qualification
• A tertiary qualification in a relevant finance, accounting and actuarial science discipline.
• Project management background will be an advantage
Experiences
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as cost controller in metallurgical and/or mining Projects
• Construction management knowledge preferably owner’s team, multi-disciplined, with contractor management experience, within a large mining project.
