The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital invites applications from suitably qualified serving officers of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and sister agencies of the Ministry of Health for appointment as Directors to fill the under-listed vacancy: Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The appointment is a fixed term engagement for a limited period of four (4) years subject to renewal based on satisfactory performance and conduct. Therefore, as a general requirement, applicants shall not be above the age of fifty-six (56) years by September, 2025.

Summary of Job/functions

• To support the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services in the delivery of high standards of safety, quality patient care, adheres to regulations and best practices regarding sanitation, infection control, patient privacy acting as a catalyst for change within the Hospital.
• To support, monitor and evaluate methods of quality assurance and clinical effectiveness in nursing practice and patient care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide support to oversee to the provision of quality nursing and midwifery services in the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
• Assist to ensure the development of appropriate policies, guidelines and standards for the efficient provision of nursing and midwifery services in the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
• Provide technical advice on nursing and midwifery matters to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services.
Assist to Identify and develop research awareness into nursing practice and service delivery and assist in the dissemination and implementation of research findings.
• Assist to ensure regular monitoring of standards of nursing and midwifery services within the Hospital.
• Support the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services to hold regular review meetings with nurse managers within the Hospital.
• Submit periodic and timely reports on nursing and midwifery activities to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services within the Hospital.
• Assist to establish and promote networks with local and other international nursing and midwifery organizations.
• Provide support in the development and implementation of strategic plans for nursing and midwifery services.
• Assist the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services to work in collaboration with other stakeholders in the formulation of nursing and midwifery reforms and policies.
• Provide technical advice on human resource issues relating to nursing and midwifery to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services in the Hospital.
• Provide technical advice for procurement of medicines and other pharmaceuticals to the Director of Pharmacy within the Hospital.
• Assist to promote the establishment of Medicines Information Services within the Hospital.
• Assist to coordinate research and development activities in the provision of pharmaceutical services within the Hospital.
• Provide support in the preparation of plans and budgets for the pharmacy department.
• Assist to prepare and submit periodic reports on the pharmaceutical services.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to inspire Pharmacists and other Pharmacy staff for professional development.
• Perform any other duty that will be delegated by the Director of Pharmacy.

Job Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Pharmacy or its equivalent plus a relevant postgraduate qualification to the level of fellowship from a recognized postgraduate college of Pharmacists or equivalent plus a minimum of three (3) years post fellowship experience. OR Bachelor of Pharmacy or its equivalent plus a relevant postgraduate qualification to the level of membership from a recognized postgraduate college of Pharmacists or equivalent plus a minimum of eight (8) years' post membership experience. OR
• Bachelor of Pharmacy or its equivalent plus a relevant Master's Degree or equivalent from a recognized University at the level of Chief Pharmacist. OR
• Bachelor of Pharmacy or its equivalent from a recognized University plus a minimum of five (5) years' experience at the level of Deputy Chief Pharmacist.
• Registered Pharmacist in good standing with the Pharmacy Council of Ghana.
• Evidence of leadership and Continuing Professional Development and training in Hospital Management, Planning and Management or Public Administration.
• Supervisory/team leadership experience.
• Experience in training of other health professionals.
• Proven experience of working at a strategic level with Senior clinicians and managers across the wider health community.
• In dept experience in the use of research methodologies and tools to conduct clinical assessments and analyze trends relative to health care practices.
• Advanced clinical experience in Specialist areas.

• Broad knowledge in relevant policies and regulations relating in the procurement and supply chain handlines storage and set of various pharmaceutical products.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of laws, rules, acts, regulations in health care operations and clinical practices.

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of medication therapy management including regimen/patients care reviews.
• Advanced expertise in identifying and managing medication risk/safety issues.
• Excellent knowledge and experience in project Management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and report writing.
• Planning, organization and Supervisory skills.
• Ability to work, lead, coach, mentor, counsel and manage a multi-disciplinary team.
