The Catholic University College of Ghana, Fiapre-Sunyani invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Director of Works and Physical Development.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Head of Works and Physical Development shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor through the Registrar and will perform the following duties:

• Development and maintenance of the physical and infrastructural works and/or facilities of the University
• Exercise oversight responsibility over the operations of all the Municipal Services of the University
• Provide supervision of works and contracts to ensure that construction and renovations are in consonance with prevailing industry standards and specifications, taking due cognisance of the special needs and requirement of the university
• Advise the University on all matters affecting tenders on building and other projects of the university to enable the award of contracts
• Subject to the approval of the development committee and on the advice of the university legal services unit, handle or deal with all preliminary matters on contracts involving the physical or infrastructural development of the University and/or the use of any part of the university lands.
• Manage all construction contracts with a view to ensuring compliance and timely delivery of projects
• Collaborate with the procurement office to procure works and consultancy services relating to the provision of technical advice on construction, in compliance with national laws and these statutes
• Be responsible for the management and control of land use, and the maintenance of records on all land transactions entered into by and on behalf of the university
• Manage and maintain the buildings, roads, drains, parks and garden of the university and their designs and drawings
• Facilitate the acquisition and allocation of housing for key employees of the university
• Coordinate the construction and maintenance of residential facilities for students
• Ensure provision of valuation services to the university
• Ensure professional management, control and disposal of waste
• Be responsible for the efficient and effective control of pests through the provision of pest control services including fumigation and
• Any other function assigned to him/her by the council and vice-chancellor

Qualification Required & Experience

• Master's Degree in preferably architecture, building technology, civil engineering, land economy, estate management or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution
• Be a member of a relevant professional body, preferably the following:

o Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA)
o Ghana Institute of Engineering (GhIE)
o Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS)
o Architects Registration Council (ARC)

• Have served as Principal Architect/Engineer/Quantity Surveyor/Construction Manager/Maintenance Officer/Estate Officer in a University or in an analogous institution or public service for a minimum of 15 years

Terms of Appointment

The appointment is full-time. Successful applicant must be able to serve a 4-year term before the retiring age of 65 years
