Job Vacancy For Directorate of Internal Audit (DIA)



The Council of the University of Cape Coast invites applications from qualified and competent persons for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the University which became vacant from 1st August, 2026.

Job Summary

•The Director of Internal Audit is the Head of the Directorate of Internal Audit and reports to council through the Vice-Chancellor. He/She performs all customary functions of an internal auditor.

Duties / Responsibilities

The Director of Internal Audit shall be responsible for:

•Reviewing and appraising, where necessary, the adequacy, soundness and applications of accounting, financial and operational controls.
•Ascertaining the extent of compliance with established policies, plans and procedures and appraise the quality of performance of those carrying our assigned responsibilities
•Ascertaining the extent to which assets are accounted for and safeguarded against losses of all kinds
•Ascertaining the reliability of accounting and other data developed within the University
•Providing assurance to the Vice-Chancellor, and for that matter, the University Council, that there is an adequate system of internal controls
•Ensuring that policies and procedures are appropriate and not wasteful
•Ensuring that reliable records form the basis for the preparation of appropriate financial and other data provided for decision-making
•Drawing the Vice-Chancellor's attention to deficiencies in the system e.g. duplication of functions, excessive waste of resources and other inefficiencies and suggest for remedies where necessary and
•Carrying out special reviews of accounting systems with a view to stamping out identified weaknesses

Qualification Required & Experience

Candidates seeking appointment to this position must:

•Possess a postgraduate degree in Accounting/Finance/Audit
•Be a member in good standing of any recognised professional accounting body e.g ICA, ACCA, CIMA etc
•Have at least 10 years post-qualification working experience as a professional accountant and with the requisite experience in internal auditing and controls and
•Have considerable knowledge of a University set up

Tenure of Office

The position, which is full-time, is for a 3 years term, renewable for another term of 3 years only, if that is not beyond statutory retiring age.
